When I go on holiday I tend not to have the typical beach break. I simply can’t sit still for that long and get itchy feet if I try and stretch out on a sun lounger for any length of time. My friends don’t understand it; all of them believing that a holiday is a break, a chance to do as little as possible whilst drinking as much as possible and tanning as much as possible. Well, I have a quick read before bed and I use a fake tan moisturiser on my legs but I really don’t see the attraction in doing it all day every day for two weeks.
No, my kind of vacation is action packed, thrilling, outdoors based and often involves me running around in the cold and rain getting as muddy as possible. I wanted to share this with my friends and arranged a three day mini break full of exciting activities in the Lake District. In the run up to the weekend I prayed for good weather as I know what the girls are like about getting in their rays. Typically on the Friday afternoon the heavens opened and the monsoon like rain didn’t stop all weekend.
This certainly put a dampener on my fun filled schedule. Paintballing, monster truck driving and running round an obstacle course are rather less fun when it is freezing cold and wet. I noticed my friends enthusiasm was somewhat waning as we finished lunch on the Monday and prepared to go back outside for our next activity, zip-wiring through the trees! I asked the girls what the main problem was and the one answer that came back from everyone was “I’m just so cold!”
I quickly established that perhaps the girls had not come kitted out in the right way and that a quick trip to an outdoors shop with next day delivery was essential. I set them up on the laptop and directed them to find a selection of warming goods from an outdoor specialist such as Outdoor Look. I confirmed that it is important to have a proper “outdoor outer layer,” as my friend described it, if you are to enjoy the kind of activities I had planned.
So they ordered the goods and that afternoon I relented and we unwound in the onsite spa. Well they unwound and I wound up! The next morning the warming outdoor layers arrived and in their new togs the girls were much more enthusiastic. In fact after out morning sessions they couldn’t wait for more. Oh what a difference having the right kit makes. Perhaps I could get them on an activity break again? Fat chance, Malaga is already booked!
