Located in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, Breckenridge attracts visitors from all over the world and offers skiing like nowhere else. But don’t let the jet set skiers fool you- this is a family friendly mountain town town with lots to see and do.
Here are just 5 Must Do’s for families with kids when you visit Breckenridge…
1. Hike on the Continental Divide
The Boreas Pass is a breathtaking mountaintop road that is closed to cars in the winter months. Take in the sights, sounds and amazing views as you hike in the mountains at over 10,000 feet. Give the kids a fun geography lesson as you explore the trail. You can also see moose, fox, and other wildlife and mingle with the locals as they snowshoe and cross country ski on the Pass.
2. Tour A Real Gold Mine
Country Boy Mine was founded during the Gold Rush of 1859, and you can take a guided tour 500 feet underground. See for yourself the harsh working conditions of the gold miners, and hear all the funny stories and ghostly legends of that important time in U.S. History. At the end of the tour, you can even try panning for real gold.
3. Go Dog Sledding

There is no better way to experience the great Western outdoors than being pulled by eight lovable Siberian Huskies. You can take turns learning to “mush” the team while the rest of the family cheers you on. Learn about the personalities of each dog on your team, and even get a keepsake photo of your family with the dogs.
4. Shop in Old Town Breckenridge
Originally a prospector’s town, much of the original architecture has been preserved or restored, and the buildings give a delightful feeling of yesteryear as you walk, shop, and eat. Browse art galleries, and see over 200 quaint shops along Main Street. Be sure to visit Clint’s Bakery and Coffeehouse for the best chocolate chip cookies you’ll find anywhere. Free bus service to the resorts is available too, which is super convenient.
5. Ride the Gondola
You can ride the gondola which spans 7,592 feet and rises 396 feet and connects the town of Breckenridge with the ski resorts, including the Grand Lodge on Peak 7 and Grand Timber Lodge. The gondola cars are spacious and comfortably seat eight people. Service is free for resort visitors and costs a nominal fee otherwise.
The aerial views of the tall pencil pines and big Western sky are simply breathtaking. Watch below as people ski and snowshoe down the mountainside. The views are spectacular day and night so be sure to bring your camera and snap away!
