5 Most Scenic Routes to Travel On Your Road Trip This Summer

If you’re looking for something fun to do this summer, look no further than a picturesque road trip. It’s a great trip idea for single folks and families alike—all you need is the car. From mountains to beaches, domestic to international, the possibilities for your summer trip are endless.

    International Trips

Doing an international road trip is a great way to see the sights while being flexible to stop when you want. There are countless places to choose from, but Greece and the Alps offer two possibilities.

    Greece:

Greece is a great option for anyone looking for an exciting road trip abroad. You’ll go down roads like E94 from Athens to the Corinth Canal and Mycenae, route 82 to Kalamata, or highway E55 to Olympia. Along the way, taste local foods like olives, visit historic sites (think of the first Olympics!), and take in the breathtaking sights. Greece certainly makes for the road trip of a lifetime.

    The Alps:

Another equally spectacular road trip idea through Europe involves driving through the Alps. These mountains stand in different countries, so depending on how you plan, you could visit things as diverse as Bavarian castles and Italian mountain cities. The winding roads offer plenty of vistas for an impromptu picnic by the side of the road, and you’ll have many opportunities to spend a night or two in a charming town.

    Stay Domestic

If you’d prefer to stay closer to home but still take in that road trip experience, America offers so many possibilities. Just get your car from a place like Earnhardt Gilbert Dodge, and you’re ready to go.

    Lake Michigan’s Coast:

Though you might not expect it, the coast of Lake Michigan gives you the chance to take in one of the most scenic routes without going too far. You’ll experience everything from cherry orchids to wineries to beaches. There’s something for everyone here.

    Northeast New Mexico:

Looking for a true taste of the Old West? Look no further than northeastern New Mexico. The Santa Fe Trail on NM 64 has the makings of the classic American road trip with its historic buildings and art galleries. You also have Sugarite Canyon State Park on NM 72 or 526 and Capulin Volcano National Monument on NM 325.

    Blue Ridge Parkway:

This 469-mile road takes you to breathtaking sights unique to America’s Appalachian mountains. You’ll see everything from limestone caverns to mountain springs. It’s a relaxing trip that’s perfect for the entire family…or any curious traveler.

And If You’re Traveling With Kids…

Any parent who’s ever taken kids along for the trip knows that long stretches in the car are often particularly trying. That doesn’t mean that you can’t fully enjoy any of these road trips, though. You just need to travel wisely. Plan to pack snacks, take naps, and go to bed at a reasonable hour. You’ll keep kids from getting cranky—and that keeps everyone in the car happy.

Planning a road trip for this summer is the perfect way to see many historic and scenic sights with the ease of having your own car with you. Whether you decide to go international or stay closer to home, you’re sure to have a trip you’ll always remember.
