Iran beats Singapore 6-0: AFC qualifier

    January 14, 2009

Iran's Mohammd Nouri has scored two goals in two minutes to see his side thrashing Singapore 6-0 in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

Singapore displayed an exceptional performance in the first half of the opening match of the qualifying round at Tehran's Azadi Stadium. The hosts had to wait 42 minutes for the breakthrough, which came when Majid Gholamnejad sent the ball to the back of the net.

Iran was the dominant side in the second half. It was only seven minutes after the break when captain Karim Baqeri scored the second goal for Iran.

Gholamreza Rezaei (55'), Maziar Zare (80') and Mohammd Nouri (82', 83') completed Iran's easy win against a Singapore, which saw one of its players sent off in the first half.

Iran will play its next Asian Cup qualifier on January 28 against Thailand.
