How Travel Insurance Saved My Adventure Vacation

I decided to take a trip during my break the first year of graduate school to visit Australia, since I had always wanted to go. I wanted to see the cultural sights; everything from Ayers Rock to the Sydney Opera House. The decision was a little impulsive, planning going by quickly, but before I left I listened to a friend’s advice and bought travel insurance.

I don’t know what my friend was thinking, but I’m so grateful that he gave me that advice. Halfway into my adventure vacation in Australia, I got into a minor car accident when another driver hit my vehicle. Since it was a rental car, I automatically went into panic mode.

Luckily, travel insurance absolutely saved my vacation in Australia. Rather than dealing with the stress of trying to figure everything out as soon as the mishap took place, I knew that I was covered. It saved me the trouble of having to call home and bother my parents to desperately piece together a plan of action. Since I had the policy information for my travel insurance policy I shared that information with the Australian police and the car rental company and had everything taken care of within no time at all.

Thanks to the travel insurance I was able to effectively deal with the accident. In fact, it barely took up any time during my day. Being able to put that out of my mind allowed me to enjoy my vacation. It just became another part of the adventure – a little bump in the road, nothing to have a major meltdown over.

I highly recommend anyone that plans on traveling to buy travel insurance. It’s better to be prepared and know you can take care of things. I would have hated it if my vacation was ruined because I didn’t have any coverage. Peace of mind is absolutely worth the cost, in my eyes.
