Tenerife is a fantastic location for a summer holiday and when it comes to beaches you are going to be spoiled for choice. Whether you are looking for white sand, black volcanic sand, chilled out and quiet, or raucous and party-filled, the island has plenty to offer. To help you decide where you want to spend your days basking in the sun, here is a round up of Tenerife’s best beaches.
Playas de Troya
This is probably the island’s most famous beach and is located in the busy resort of Playa de las Americas. There are plenty of water sports to enjoy here and the beach gently shelves into the sea, making it perfect for families with children. Playas de Troya has plenty of amenities, including lots of bars and restaurants, and it is close to much of the accommodation of Playa de las Americas.
La Caleta
A completely different kettle of fish to Playas de Troya, La Caleta is a small, stony beach that is much quieter than some of the other beaches in the area. Here you will find some excellent snorkeling and there are also some delicious fish restaurants to stop off at for lunch.
Playa de las Vistas
Playa de las Vistas is a golden, sandy beach just outside of Los Cristianos which has a well sheltered bay that is great for family water sports and swimming. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and the beach is well connected to the other resorts.
Playa del Bobo
If you have any interest in learning to sail or windsurf then Playa del Bobo is a great beach option. It has soft, dark sand and there is a promenade across the top of the beach with lots of eating and drinking facilities.
Playa de la Enramada
If you are looking for a beach where you can get away from the crowds of holiday makers and enjoy a quiet nap on the sand then look out for Playa de la Enramada. The small sandy cove is located between La Caleta and Playa de las Americas and rarely gets crowded even in the height of the summer months.
Playa de Las Teresitas
The beautiful golden sands of Playa de Las Teresitas have been imported straight from the Sahara and the beach is extremely picturesque as it has been planted with Canary Island palms, coconut palms and Canary Island bean caper. The huge beach is also great for swimming as it is protected by a breakwater.
Playa de la Arena
If you are looking for prize winning beaches, then look no further as Playa de la Arena has won a Blue Flag award every year since 1989. The beach is around 500m from the fishing village of Puerto Santiago and has soft, black sand, lots of amenities and – reputedly – the brightest sunlight on the island.
Playa de El Medano
Playa de El Medano is a great option for a family beach as it is located in the quiet resort of Ed Medano and is well equipped for families. This is the longest beach in Tenerife so you won’t have to squeeze up to the next group of holidaymakers, and there are great opportunities for windsurfing here as there are lots of good, strong breezes in the area.
