Tips For Packing Clothes For A Holiday

It is so difficult to make up your mind about which clothes to take along and what to leave behind and guessing what you will need and what you might miss if you don’t pack it in. Most people complain of being very stressed out with the packing process, especially since packing extra clothes and shoes is usually a way for people to compensate for any unexpected situations cropping up. Most people want to make sure there are no surprises later, and hence end up packing far more than they need on their vacations.
Instead of burdening yourself with unnecessary luggage, use our tips to optimize the space you have and travel light!
Begin with deciding what you will be taking and what you won’t. Most people like to prepare for every eventuality by keeping all sorts of clothes, footwear and accessories. Use your better judgement and don’t take anything that you won’t require on your holiday.

Keep multipurpose pieces. Things that can be used for a number of different occasions or clothes that can be coordinated with other garments are a great way to save space without compromising on your wardrobe. For instance, pack your favourite pair of jeans because these will go with a number of different tops.

Pack very few bottoms. Bottoms are usually very versatile and can be matched with a number of different tops, without anyone noticing. They are also more voluminous and take up more space in your luggage. So, limit yourself to the basics and focus more on the uppers so that you can get more out of fewer clothes.

Neutrals and classic garments are a must because they can be used several times over with different pieces and accessories and you will have lots of new looks without having to carry a truckload of clothes. Remember, the more memorable a garment is, the less you’ll be able to reuse it. Basics such as denim jeans, t-shirts in colours like white, blue and navy, black pants, white and black shirts etc. can be paired up with colourful blazers or tops or accessories again and again.

Pack your underwear wisely. You should have one pair of everything you need for each day. You may or may not get the chance to do your laundry regularly, so carrying adequate fresh undergarments is important. You can probably reuse socks twice before putting them in the laundry bag, so take only 3-4 pairs along.
On a vacation, you only ever need three pairs of shoes: a sturdy pair of sneakers, a pair of flat shoes or sandals and one pair of dressy shoes. These should all be in neutral colours that will go well with all your outfits. If you want, throw in a pair of bath slippers.

The trick to looking fabulous on a vacation without carrying your closet along is in the details. Instead of piling up garments, pack a number of bold, eye-catching accessories and a watch or two. These will help you jazz up your outfits and will also make each ensemble look different. The great thing about accessories is that they immediately draw attention, so even if you are repeating a garment, most people are likely not to notice it because they will focus more on that stunning neck piece or the impressive watch on your wrist. Proper packing is essential for you memorable journey.

    1. Good article. Another good tip to add in would be to pack according to the weather. When I am traveling somewhere new I always make sure that I check out their forecast to avoid being overdressed or under-dressed.
