    Where to go in Turkey?

Turkey is a country that has risen up the holiday destination ladder over recent times and now, rightly, finds itself somewhere very near the top rung. It is an incredibly popular destination, especially for Europeans who find that it offers that little bit of spice, but is still only a short journey away. This increase in tourist traffic has meant that Turkey has had to grow its resorts to cater for the demand and almost every year a new destination seems to pop up on the vacation radar. So with this amount of choice it is important to make sure that the spot you pick for your Turkish delight is everything that you hoped it would be.

Bodrum and Gumbet were both early pioneers when it comes to Turkish holiday resorts and they have grown in strength every year since those early days. Each is now a complete destination that boasts plenty of activities to suit just about every taste. There are the wonderful coves and beaches with their beautifully warm waters, or the superb nightlife of the city centre that goes right through the night and often into the following day. Whether you like to eat burgers and pizza or try the more traditional Turkish fare you will be catered for and, of course, there are always plenty of kebabs. So if you want a polished holiday spot that has had years of practice then each of these is one of the finest that Turkey has to offer.

Much of Turkey is a living monument with ancient relics and ruins in every photograph, and the resort town of Side is one of the best examples of this. Set on a peninsula of sandy beaches, the city walls still surround the city and the Hellenistic 17000 seat open air theatre looks out across the sea. For those with an urge to explore there are numerous other museums and temples to visit and all are within walking distance of the town centre. Further afield, and a short bus journey away, are even more historical treasures that have a wide and absorbing history. With tales of Persian rule and Alexander the Great you know that you are steeping back through time to a world far different from today.

A more recent addition to the Turkish holiday hotspot favorites is the town of Alanya. Whilst there is still plenty of history surrounding this town holidays here tend to be anything but old fashioned. Modern hotels provide the best imaginable service and restaurants serve the best cuisine, often caught that day from the warm and tranquil waters that surround the resort. The harbor area is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike to come and enjoy a refreshing drink while they watch the world go by. The shops and boutiques in Alanya offer the latest fashions as well as trinkets and souvenirs to remind you of your stay and the multitude of lovely beaches, three of which are blue flag, are perfect for topping up on your tan.

So whether you are looking to pamper yourself in the most modern of resorts or throw yourself into the history of the land, Turkey has a special place for everybody to enjoy. So book your Turkish trip (or what us Danes call Tyrkiet rejser) now. You will not regret it.

    2. Great post highlighting what Turkey has to offer and details some of Turkey’s bigger resorts.
As well as these there are some great ‘little gems’ to visit such as; Dalyan, Datça and Goçek plus many more. The bigger and smaller resorts all hold so much history just like the rest of Turkey.
I live and work in Dalyan which is in South Western Turkey near the Greek Border offering Villa and Apartment Rental, Property Management, Car Rental and Airport Transfers. To read more about Dalyan visit my website: http://www.ComeToDalyan.com. As I have experienced, Turkey does have a lot to offer all different types of tourists.
