“Do not do to others what you don’t want others do unto you.”

The golden rule sums up the principle behind observing decent manners when you’re traveling. You want everything to turn out well. You strive to stay positive to keep your composure intact. And the last thing you want to deal with are rude people.

Then it is as well crucial to live by these travel etiquette tips.

    Look before you recline.

Yes, that chair is yours to use. But you cannot care less about other passengers when you push your seat backwards. It would not take that much time informing them that you want your seat reclined. They will appreciate the notice most especially if they have gadgets on their lap.

    Keep noise level minimum.

Rooms, whether you are staying in a posh or cheap accommodation, are not sound-proofed. You will have to bear with the noise coming from adjacent rooms.

And if you are the type whose sleep is easily interrupted by even the softest sounds then you will have to prepare yourself for the worst. There will be people walking and running down the corridor, talking and laughing boisterously, banging their doors, or staying up late partying.

The rule of thumb is to be sensitive yourself. If your neighbors get so loud, call help from the staff to do the negotiations on your behalf. In case the situation gets way out of control, request that you be transferred to another room.

Leave armrest for passengers on middle seats.

Have you ever seated on the middle?

If yes, that means you have also experienced awkward moments with those sitting right and left of you. Leave the armrest to the person sitting in the middle and use the other one by the aisle. No more arguing.

Train kids for their first flight.

Parents worry not just about their kids who are throwing tantrums. They also have to deal with other passengers they may inconvenience.

Train your kids ahead of time to behave well during flights. Read more and subscribe to travel blogs dedicated to parents. Simulate check-in and boarding. During check-in for instance, kids will have to take off or put away anything metal on their things, their favorite toy included. Remind them that they will have their things back so you will not have to discuss this right when you are checking in. Prepare as well weapons to keep them busy – toys, books or gadgets.

As the other passenger meanwhile, extend patience especially when you see that the parents are already having a hard time controlling their young ones.

    Pack odorless food.

There’s nothing wrong stashing snacks in your carry ons. It becomes an issue however when you bring a pack with a strong scent. Some passengers are extra sensitive about odors. Any unpleasant smell may cause them to throw up.

    Deal with cab drivers properly.

Request that they use meters and check whether they do turn it on. If you feel that the driver is driving recklessly then you can always request that the car be pulled over.

You are not obliged to hand in gratuities. Learn key phrase or words if you would like to ensure that transactions to turn out smooth. You cannot after all expect everyone to understand your native language.
