If the idea of seeing the local landmarks and visiting museums sounds like a recipe for torture. If you prefer to have your courage and wits challenged. If you prefer to overcome and endure rather than just visit. Then luckily for you, Johannesburg, apart from the world’s largest man made forest, is also an excellent city for the adrenalin-seeking visitor.

Here are just some of the wild adventures you can have in and around Joburg.
Bungee jump from the Orlando cooling towers in Soweto
Travel to Orlando, slowly rise to the top of the cooling towers in an open-air lift, and take in the view of the Johannesburg skyline. Take a breath before you hurl yourself over the edge and either between the two cooling towers or the far more interesting challenge into the centre of one.
The towers are open Friday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm and till 1pm on Thursday.
Ride a Zip line through the scenic Magaliesburg
Take a 40-minute drive to Magaliesburg and explore a ravine at speed. Let gravity do all the work as you slide through a treacherous crevasse on a large cable. If you are not afraid of heights and aren’t too busy screaming Wooo, take in the sights of Wildlife and the Crocodile River.
Go river rafting on the Crocodile River
Get out of the city and enjoy some mild river rafting, just 45 minutes out of Johannesburg. Watch out for the prehistoric monsters know as crocodiles as you paddle down these grade one and two rapids. Some fitness and balance is required, but the equipment is provided so get out, get wet, and have fun.
Race a dragon! A dragon boat.
A dragon boat is not a boat for giant lizards; it is a slim streamlined, fibreglass or teak, 18-seater boat with a brightly painted dragonhead and tail. Not a boat for giant lizards. But don’t fooled by the pageantry, these boats are fast and give a good workout to a group or company and it is excellent way to team build.
Race around Kyalami
Do you have need for speed? Visit the Kyalami racetrack and learn to drive and race a 3.5 V6 supercharged Reynard single-seater racecar. Enjoy the sensation of fear mixed with excitement in an activity that requires both skill and courage. Take the silver experience and receive training, a safety briefing, gear rental and your very own pit crew.
Snacks and refreshments are also provided during the event as well a photographer to capture your Schumacher moment.
Take a shot at clay pigeon shooting
Visit Waterhaven Country estate and try your hand at clay Pigeon shooting, archery and if you want to shoot at people, paintball. Test your aim and your concentration by blasting those clay suckers out of the sky. Get out there and give it a shot.
Drive a rally car.
Live the dream and drive a Subaru STI around a rally special stage at Rally star. Test your nerves by driving though rough and sometimes slippery terrain at break neck speed knowing that any mistake can send you rolling in a blur of crumpled metal. Drive yourself or experience the real rally experience as a passenger while one of Rally star’s skilled instructors takes you around the track.
Slide down a mountain
Jozi-X offers a relatively new experience, being strapped to board while descending a mountain. Mountain boarding is extreme sport which is like skateboarding except with bigger wheels. Strap your feet to the board a use gravity to soar over large jumps and traverse winding dirt coarse. If you have a friend brave enough you can amp up the action with the traditional “Race you to the bottom”. It is hours of fun, provided you have the fitness and the balance.
Go water skiing without a boat at Base 3.
How do you Ski without a boat? Cable skiing involves being towed around by cable suspended above a circular dam, no boat. It is fast, fun and interesting, an aquatic version of the ancient Rome’s chariot races. All you need to cable ski is the ability to swim, a Swimming costume and a towel. You can also cable wakeboard, cable kneeboard and cable wakeskate. Wakeskating is like wake boarding but without your feet being bound to the board, apparently.
Go Zorbing at Jozi X
Zorbing is not sexual act but an activity in which you are put into a massive ball and rolled down a 200-meter slope like a child in tire. Enjoy the rush of a being rolling out of control, but completely safe .This activity, invented in New Zealand, is amazing fun provided you don’t suffer from motion sickness.
