Summer Travels? 4 Cool Apps to Make It Safe and Easy

Winter is over and summer fun is here! If you are planning a trip, summer is the ideal time for a getaway. Whether you’re traveling abroad or locally, you’ll want to make the most out of the latest technological applications that can help make your trip a breeze.

    Flights and Transportation

Transportation can be a major headache when traveling anywhere on vacation. Between delays, connecting flights, baggage and booking your seats, you can spend a lot of wasted time worrying. Seatguru is a handy app that allows you to book your flight and seat. Since the seating arrangement varies, you can utilize the color coded chart to select the most welcoming and comfy places to sit. It also showcases other information such as reclining seats, bulkhead and shared entertainment seating.

Gateguru allows you to check on any gate changes or delays related to your flight. Added bonuses include average security wait time, map terminals and airport restaurant reviews. When you’ve reached your destination, Allsubway HD and Hailo make it easy to get around by way of subway or taxicab. Included in the applications you’ll find maps of the city and a handy way to hail a cab.

    Personalized Travel Assistant

If you’re looking for a personalized assistant to keep track of the intricate details of your trip, Tripit is a handy organizational site. Tripit allows you to program in your itinerary, so you can stay on schedule. Trail Wallet is for the budget minded individual who wants to stay on top of their expenses. You can set up the appropriate categories before you leave for your trip to get a handle on your spending costs. It also supports the various currencies around the globe.

    Stay Safe

You can also plan ahead for any unexpected illnesses or accidents while traveling by installing ICE Standard. If you’ve been in an accident and are awaiting an ambulance, you can have your emergency information displayed on your wallpaper so they know who to contact. It also allows them to administer the proper treatment in case you have any allergies to prescriptive medications.

Visiting a new city can be exhilarating, but you must always be aware of your surroundings. Don’t hesitate to think that crime isn’t everywhere, and let your guard down. Criminals prey upon tourists due to the fact that they do not know a city or they’re busy capturing pictures and not watching their immediate “space.” For instance, if you are injured or become a victim of crime while site-seeing in New York City, a personal injury attorney Albany NY residents trust notes, “It is important to contact an attorney soon after an injury because New York State law provides only a limited amount of time to file paperwork to protect you right to recover for an injury, disability, death, including categories of damages such as medical bills, lost wages, lost benefits, and pain and suffering.”

    Staying in Touch

Keeping in contact with friends and loved ones while you’re away can be difficult. However, there are a number of applications that make staying in touch easy and affordable. Wi-Fi Finder allows you to locate the areas of free Wi-Fi accessibility. WhatsApp allows users to chat, share audio, video and photos. Other individuals using WhatsApp can also enjoy the free texting feature, so your phone charges won’t skyrocket when you travel.

    Translation

For individuals who will be traveling abroad, you’ll find an assortment of applications that can convert your currency and words or phrases. XE Currency gives you up-to-date currency exchange rates and takes the guesswork out of calculating the exact change when dining out, paying for public transportation or lodging. Forvo not only translates words and phrases for you, it goes above and beyond by actually helping you to pronounce the word.

Phone apps make the world an easier place for visitors to travel with just the touch of your fingertips. Before you head out of town on vacation, ensure that you have all the required technological gear and downloaded phone applications. You’ll also want to make sure you have the best cellular rate plan for visitors who will be traveling abroad since it can be costly. Be prepared, pack well and enjoy your trip!

Being a ‘tech traveler’ allows Nadine Swayne to present these tips of convenience and safety. If you are injured or become a victim of crime while on your vacation, Anthony Bottar is the senior partner and co-founder of Bottar Leone, PLLC and is a personal injury attorney Albany NY residents trust to represent their cases. 1. Thanks for posting these great travel apps, Nadine. I travel a lot for my job at DISH, so I am always looking for helpful apps. I think I’ll check out Seatguru and TripIt before my next trip out of town. You could make another category for entertainment, and I would include my favorite app. It’s called DISH Anywhere and it streams live or recorded TV. It’s been great for waiting out flight delays, layovers, and for keeping up on my home teams while I’m away from home.
