    A Romantic Weekend in Berlin

If you’re looking for a fabulous trip away for you and your loved one but you don’t want to shell out for somewhere as far afield as the Maldives, then Europe has some excellent options.  A romantic weekend in Berlin will win you major brownie points with your other half, whether you spend your time learning together about the city’s rich history, or exploring its cutting edge nightlife.  Whatever the budget you have for your trip to Berlin you will be able to find ways to inject a bit or romance into your trip as there’s a whole range of activities and entertainment to enjoy together.Daytime Activities in Berlin

Berlin Zoo (http://www.zoo-berlin.de) is somewhere many of the locals head to as it’s great first date territory.  If you’re planning a trip to the city then this is an unusual and fun place to take your loved one for a wander around the enclosures to see the animals, including a little polar bear called Knut who has become quite the celebrity in Germany for his incredible cuteness.

Berlin is less than half the size of London so it’s easy to get around on foot and see everything that the city has to offer in a couple of days. The Brandenburg Gate is one of the city’s former gates and a major symbol of both Berlin and Germany.  The Tiergarten is located in Mitte in central Berlin and is a huge urban park where you can spend the days wondering around hand in hand under the trees, gazing at the lakes.  Be sure to also check out the Siegessäule (the Victory Column), as it’s a pretty central part of Berlin, being the location of the start of the Berlin Marathon and the annual Love Parade.

    Eating and Drinking in Berlin

Whether you’re looking for gourmet, traditional, café or trendy, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to eating and drinking in Berlin.  If you really want to push the boat out then you can opt for somewhere like Bamberger Reiter, one of the premier classic gourmet restaurants in Berlin.  Here you will find an intimate environment and classic Austrian cuisines (http://www.schloss-glienicke.de/baframe.htm). Cafe am neuem See is a trendy spot with scrubbed wooden floors and a fabulous beer garden.  If you’re visiting in the summer this is a lovely place for a romantic drink under the stars (http://www.cafe-am-neuen-see.de). Einstein, Café is a classic, traditional Berlin establishment located in a gorgeous old house, a perfect place to bring your date for some Viennese coffee and cake.

    Going Out in Berlin

Whatever type of couple you are and whatever your idea of a romantic night out – whether you prefer moonlit strolls along the streets or a night of techno in a crowded club – Berlin has something to offer.  You can sign up for one of the ‘nightwalks’ which will take you around the city, with stops at bars and restaurants on the way, or you can simply plan your own route and perhaps focus on an up and coming area of new pubs and bars like Savignyplatz in Charlottenburg.  There are also lots of fabulous jazz clubs to try – such as Quasimodo (http://www.quasimodo.de) and A-Trane (http://www.a-trane.de) and plenty of intimate bars where you can wile away the hours gazing at each other over a flickering candle flame.  If you are a clubbing couple then you have come to the right place as Berlin has one of the most varied and cutting edge club scenes in Europe.  Check out the wacky décor and eclectic mix of nights at the King Kong Club (http://www.king-kong-klub.de), head to Watergate if you’re true techno fans (http://www.water-gate.de), or for a real endurance test of a night out, try ‘Berlin’s best club’ Berghain & Panorama Bar (http://www.berghain.de).
