    Adventuring Nayarit

Nayarit is a state located in the western region of Mexico and is a hot travel destination because of its beautiful beaches and fascinating museums. Although there are plenty of must-see tourist areas in Mexico, Nayarit is one of the best kept secrets despite its ideal location and rich history.

If you’re planning to travel to Mexico anytime soon, you’ll have to check out the following top five attractions in Nayarit to make your visit truly complete.

    – The Armado Nervo Museum

This must-see museum features the photographs and writings of famed Mexican poet Armado Nervo. The museum is located in the home in which Nervo was born and creates a very intimate and personalized display of the artist’s work. Nervo was a prized member of the community and was the Mexican Ambassador to Argentina and Uruguay in his lifetime. He is most well known for his use of metaphor and references to romantic and religious themes, drawing on both Christian and Hindu influences. He is often regarded as one of the most important Mexican poets of the 19th century.

    – San Blas Beach

If you want to truly experience the culture of Nayarit, San Blas beach is a great place to get away from it all and enjoy the beautiful landscapes and quaint architecture of the area. Don’t expect a futuristic resort at San Blas. The area doesn’t have any condos, five-star hotels, shopping malls, golf courses, highways, or any of the other touristy attractions. Because of its primitive and quiet setting, San Blas beach allows visitors to experience the beauty of Mexican landscape without all the noise and lavishness from city life.

    – Cathedral of Purísima Concepción de María

Built in 1754, the gorgeous Cathedral of Purísima Concepción de María (which translates to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Mary) can’t be missed with its twin 40-meter high towers and breathtaking, intricate architectural design. The huge cathedral is very welcoming to new visitors and holds regular services and activities for locals as well as tourists. The cathedral features a beautiful, detailed dome over the alter and various antique and complex designs featured all over the interior of the cathedral.

    – Ceboruco Volcano

If you’ve ever wanted to experience what a real live volcano looks like, Nayarit is the place to be with the famous Ceboruco Volcano. The volcano is located near the town of Jala, where visitors can travel up a an 11 kilometer dirt road up the side of the mountain. The hike is picturesque in and of itself with the beautiful surrounding vegetation and lava remnants of the last volcano eruption in 1879. Seeing this volcano up close is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that is both refreshing and educational.

    – La Yesca

The awe-inspiring town of La Yesca is within walking distance of Ixtlán del Río and offers plenty of attractions to keep you busy and enjoying a full Nayarit experience without spending a lot of money. With its signature red tile roofed houses, La Yesca is a quaint area for experiencing a new culture and perhaps doing a little hiking up the La Yesca mountain in the area, which reaches 2,830 meters above sea level. One of the most unique features of the city is the beautiful cathedral, which allows visitors to climb on the roof and see the city from a breathtaking perspective.
