Alternative Travel in Europe: Renting a Boat

When one first begins to plan a European vacation or getaway, the first task might be to log on to as many websites as possible in order to search for decent accommodations.

However, unless you find yourself planning a luxurious no-holds-barred trip or lavish travel plans to celebrate a special occasion, the price per night of most lodging options in European cities is enough to put a damper on anyone’s spirits.

Plus, staying in just one or two locations doesn’t allow for a very diverse experience; Europe is a grand continent featuring various interesting cultures and you’ll want to enjoy as many new sights and sounds as possible.

One way of doing so is to travel by train, riding the rails from each point of interest to the next. This involves locating a train station in each destination, sorting out schedules and making sure to stay as near to the station as possible to facilitate plans. Trains can also be tiresome, especially if they involve numerous hours between countries or the need to wait for trains that might be delayed.

Another way many people choose to make the most of their opportunity to explore Europe is by taking low-cost airlines and city-jumping to the best of their ability. Many visitors are unaware that Europe does have several accessible airlines. But, it can be difficult to plan each departure, get to the airport on time, and arrange for transportation from your arrival airport to suitable lodgings in foreign cities.

There is also another option for travel through Europe, and it is one that many tourists from overseas may not have considered: renting a boat.

Almost completely surrounded by water, the European continent is webbed by beautiful canals, rivers and waterways. Many of the scenic photographs of windmills in Holland, for example, or charming French villages, were in fact taken from the water.

Tourists can rent a boat in many locations in Europe and enjoy a gentle, leisurely vacation which allows them to take in the sights and sounds of each destination without the added stress of travelling by public transportation.

If you’ve ever done a houseboat vacation or simply cruised down a river, you know the joys of waking up on the water and enjoying quality time with family and friends.

The boats available for rent in Europe travel at gentle speeds, making it easy for anyone to captain them. They can be docked easily, allowing you to step ashore and explore any attraction on your itinerary. At night you’ll be rocked to sleep in a comfortable berth, and meals can be prepared in your boat’s kitchen using fresh local ingredients.

By renting a boat, you’ll not only be able to experience the true essence of each country and its charming villages and countryside, you’ll also have taken care of accommodations for a good part of your vacation.

Canal boats are perfect for creating memories with friends and family- they are suitable and safe for groups of travellers ranging from couples to extended families.

When visiting Europe, think outside the box- consider renting a boat for an unforgettable vacation.
