Escape to paradise – Bora Bora

Imagine you have just arrived at the destination of your dreams. The beaches are wonderfully white, soft and heavenly, the water is an unimaginable shade of that color which is neither blue nor green, however is both. Bora Bora awaits!

You spend your first days soaking up the sun, perfecting your backstroke, applying generous amounts of sunscreen, and thoroughly enjoying yourself. However, after several days have passed, you begin to wonder if there is something more you could do, as this serious amount of resting has now lulled you into a dazed condition.

    Family fun

If you are staying in Bora Bora with your family, and all you really wish to do is have fun on the beach together, Matira Beach is the perfect choice for you. It is the only public beach on the main island, and it stretches from the Hotel Bora Bora up to Matira point. There is generous shade provided by the surrounding palms, and the gentle slope of the sand makes it suitable for even small children.

    Taking a cruise

The islands of Bora Bora are one of the most breathtakingly beautiful parts of the world you may ever witness. Taking some time to explore is a must! There are numerous cruises provided by operators on the island, catering to your specific needs. Some offer occasional stops aimed at snorkeling or diving, while others will take you to the most pleasant places to sunbathe. You can also sign up for feeding sharks! If you would prefer not to be tied down by a schedule, you can go exploring on your own, and go where your heart takes you.

    Swimming with turtles

One of those experiences you simply have to include on any bucket list involving Bora Bora is visiting the turtle centre and sanctuary. The centre allows visitors to swim with these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat, a unique experience which you shouldn’t miss! You won’t be allowed to touch any of the turtles, but it is enough to be near these majestic creatures to feel all their power. Visits to the centre can be arranged through the Le Meridien Bora Bora hotel.

    Hiking

There is also a lot on offer for the outdoorsy types: as the island sports two extinct volcanic peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, you can pack your gear and head out on a hike. You can choose from several different paths, some of which are quite difficult for an inexperienced hiker. You may consider hiring a guide as well, who will arrange a route that is most suited to your wishes and abilities. This is probably the best way to view the islands and the lagoons surrounding them, and the images you take away will be priceless.

    Diving and snorkeling

If you are an experienced diver, or if you would like to get your feet wet for the very first time, Bora Bora offers the perfect opportunities. You can learn the basics in one of the more shallow lagoons where you won’t be intimidated by the depths. More seasoned divers may opt for heading out to sites where different kinds of sharks and fish may be found. Remember to take an underwater camera, for the closest close up of a shark available.

In case diving still seems a bit too intimidating, you may wish to try snorkeling. There are numerous coral gardens where you can venture out, and still take amazing photos!

The islands of Tahiti offer a wide range of holiday packages to suit your every need, so don’t be too choosy, pick your destination, and head out to paradise!
