It isn’t always easy to leave your kids behind when you go on holiday, practically or emotionally, but sometimes a break to be yourselves and not just parents is just what is needed. Most tour operators now have some resorts or holidays for adults only, and resorts such as Sandals or Mark Warner resorts are famous for being geared towards adult holidays. In the UK, Warner Leisure Hotels offer adult-only hotels where you can relax on a standard break or a themed or activity break without the worry of being surrounded by other people’s kids reminding you of yours at home and making you worry about them.
Activity breaks
Some activity breaks are designed for families, but others are designed for adults. You may have always wanted to drive a Formula 1 car, see an opera, learn a new sport, or have a fitness break. None of these are particularly suitable for children so time away from the kids is a perfect time to do these without having to think of ways to keep the younger members of your family occupied while you are busy.
Spa breaks
For total relaxation, why not consider a spa break? Whilst these aren’t usually advertised as adults only, it is unusual to find children at a spa hotel. The range of treatments and facilities varies enormously so it’s always good to check the places out. Many spa hotels also have excellent dining facilities and general leisure facilities too.
The great outdoors
The outdoor life is great for kids but if your children are very young, a walking or cycling holiday might be difficult for them. Camping can also be hard with very young children and babies, simply due to the large amount of equipment you will need for them. There are campsites available which are for adults only, and for a short break they could be ideal. They tend to be smaller sites but are usually very clean.
City breaks
City breaks, whether in the UK or abroad, are great for families or breaks without children. If you are going without the kids, then you can consider upgrading your accommodation, possibly taking in a show or a concert (as you won’t need to find a babysitter), and making the most of the evening activities available. And if you like the place, then you can return with the children at a later date and do some different activities.
Recharge your batteries
A holiday without your children isn’t selfish. Sometimes it is necessary to recharge your batteries, take time out, and go back refreshed and relaxed.
