If you search the web, you’ll quickly find that there are some fantastic options when it comes to travel this year. From amazing cruises to the summer Olympics, destinations are limited only by your imagination. Here are the hottest tickets for 2012:
Titanic Centennial
Since it hit an iceberg and sank in 1912, the Titanic has become the stuff of legends and lore. While no one will ever be able to sail on the Titanic again, they can take a cruise commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the ill-fated trip.
The Azamara Journey cruise, present by Royal Caribbean, will embark from Boston on April 9. The route will include a stop above the Titanic wreckage for three days, coinciding with the tragic anniversary. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place and passengers will be served dishes the original passengers enjoyed and have the opportunity to learn an Irish dance, popular during that time.
Summer Olympics
The Summer Olympic Games will be held in London, England for the first time ever. If you aren’t lucky enough to secure tickets to the games themselves, there will still be much to see and do as London gears up for the festivities. The Games will take place from July 27 to August 12 and be shown via big screen in many of the city’s public parks.
With all there is to see and do in London, it will be an amazing choice of destination no matter if you are able to see the Games or not. While in the city, be sure to visit the House of Parliament, the Tower of London and the London Eye. If you’re looking to get a bit off of the beaten path, head down to the London Dungeon and learn about Jack the Ripper and the Plague.
Alaska
If you’ve ever wanted to see the northern lights, of the aurora borealis, the time is now. The cycle for the lights is 11 years long and we are emerging from a period of low activity. With the increased solar activity expected this year, viewing the lights will provide for a more colorful and bright experience.
Do you want to experience the northern lights for yourself? Alaska, Iceland and even Scandinavia will all offer amazing viewing anywhere from late April to late August.
Girl with the Dragon
With the astounding success of the book trilogy, and now the American film, “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” has spawned walking tours friendly to Americans. Tours are now given in English and are available with guides or without, enabling you to tailor your experience to your liking.
If you ever needed a visit to visit Stockholm, you’ve got it! Taking a tour of the city will not only give you a better feel for the book trilogy but will allow you the fantastic opportunity to see the wonderful country of Sweden. Do be sure to book early as these tours have been filling up rather quickly as of late.
