Choosing a hotel can be a very personal matter, especially if you’re looking for something very specific. There are a range of factors you’ll need to take into account when picking the best hotel for your holiday, with everything from the price to the eco friendliness of the hotel coming into play.
Some of the biggest contenders when looking for a hotel include:
- 1. Price
Price is one of the most important aspects of choosing a hotel, as over 90% of people don’t care whether their chosen hotel is part of a brand as long as the price is reasonable. Meanwhile, almost 40% book hotels based on their price rather than good online reviews. The overall cost of your hotel will all depend on your budget though, so set this out before you book anything.
- 2. Location
Of course, you’ll want to stay in a hotel that’s within reach of all the attractions you want to visit. Some may prefer to stay on the outskirts of a town or city in order to keep costs down, as these hotels are generally cheaper. You’ll no doubt be after a hotel that’s close to the airport or other transport routes though.
- 3. Amenities
The hotel’s amenities can also be a deal breaker. Some of the most important hotel amenities for hotel guests include free Wi-Fi, breakfast included, loyalty cards, onsite restaurants and free airport transfers.
- 4. Family friendliness
Most hotels have family friendly amenities nowadays, with cots, high chairs and other baby-related items available upon request. If you’re travelling with the whole family it’s vital that the hotel is able to cater to your kids, so do your research before booking.
- 5. Eco friendliness
Some people insist on staying in hotels that are eco-friendly, and it’s not actually that hard to find ones that are able to offer green standards. There’s even a Green Hotels Association in the USA, and hotels across the world have started to switch out energy wasting methods for energy savings ones.
So, how can I put all of this into practice?
Finding a hotel that suits your needs isn’t nearly as hard as it sounds, as all you need to do is carry out a little bit of research. You can do all of this online nowadays, which can make the process much faster.
You can use hotel search engines of just Google the hotel aspect that you’re looking for (e.g. beach hotels, family friendly hotels, budget hotels, etc.). Once you’ve found a potential hotel, it’s all about looking out for the key details.
You should take a thorough look at the hotel’s website to find out whether it would suit your standards and, if in doubt, give them a call to make sure that it would be perfect.
Reading online reviews can also help you to make up your mind, especially if you want to find out how other people found the hotel. If you have any friends or family members that may have visited the destination you’re heading to, ask them if they know of any great hotels in the area. They may even be able to personally suggest one to you.
No matter what kind of hotel you’re after, with just a little bit of online knowhow you can seek out the ideal one for you and your family. This will ensure your holiday is a complete success and, who knows, you may even want to return for a repeat visit in the future!

What I find amazing on this article is this will help me in any trip I make no matter the destination, it is very useful information for any person who travels. Choosing a hotel is not always easy, sometimes price is not everything, specially when you go outside the continent, things change very much.
This is a very useful article. When traveling it is important to have a hotel that suits your needs and has great customer service. If your hotel is not up to your standards it could very well cause you to have an awful trip. Whenever I am booking my hotel I make sure that I read reviews from various sites and find out detailed information about the area it is located in as well as what amenities they provide.
Me and my girlfriend have just booked to go to Hotel Sis Pins and reading the reviews on trip advisor was one of the main things we based it on. We read the reviews for this hotel, http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g1028722-d567479-Reviews-Sis_Pins-Port_de_Pollenca_Majorca_Balearic_Islands.html, and couldn’t find a better hotel for the price we got it for. The reviews were perfect for what we wanted. I think one of the things that really made us make this decision to go was the Cappuccino Grand Café Majorca they have. I mean I don’t really need to say a lot about it just look at the pictures! Victoria and Lilly amazing comments on this, I agree with you both!!!!
I don’t know about it being cheaper to stay in an hotel located on the outskirts of a city. That will require you to spend more on transportation and might not actually be cheaper that staying in a hotel located in the city.
I think it would depend on the form of transport you would use. If you’d take a taxi every time you want to go to the town, it might end up being more expensive. However, if you would use public transportation, it will most likely still be cheaper.
this proves is not always about the money, and in my opinion it really depends of the kind of trip. If it is a family thing and there are kids involved you must try to keep it comfortable, specially if the weather is too hot or too cold cause this can be a problem, but if the trip is more an adventurous one and you don´t want to be too much time in the hotel then it is not worth it to spend lots of money in it.
