If you’re not a great skier you’re really missing out on all of the fun. Great skiers can fly down a mountain like superman at breakneck speeds. They can go on the most exciting runs and they will feel shivers running down their back. When they are performing cool tricks everyone will watch them in amazement. You don’t get to experience any of those things if you can’t stop yourself from falling every 5 seconds, so you must do something about it.
It’s not easy to become better when you don’t live near a mountain because you might only get to ski for a few weeks per year. If you keep progressing at the same speed you will be old before you get to experience the cool stuff. What you need are some tips that will help you become a better skier in much less time. We can look at a few of those tips right now and when you hit the slopes next winter you will be unstoppable in less than a week.
Get better equipment

One of the biggest problems people seem to have is bad equipment. You have no idea what you’re missing until you buy some good stuff. If you only go skiing once per year when you go away on a winter holiday you might only rent your equipment from a shop at the resort. It’s old, worn, and cheap. Buy your own pair of skis and get some nice comfortable boots. If you already have your own stuff you could save money and upgrade before you go away again.
Start getting fit

If you want to be a great skier you need to be fit. You need good strength, cardiovascular endurance, and mobility. Don’t expect to do nothing all year then turn up on the mountain and transform into fittest person in the world. It takes hard work and dedication to become as fit as possible before you even put your ski boots on. You should go down to the gym tomorrow and work hard until you go away. You will notice the difference on your first run.
Take lessons
What do professional athletes have in common? They all have coaches who work with them every day. They become the best in the world in their chosen profession because they have people helping them every step of the way. When amateurs turn up on the mountain they look down on the ones being taught. Do you think you’re better than someone who takes lessons? Don’t be so big-headed and go speak to an expert who will show you the way.
Take more chances
Start with a run you are comfortable on, but don’t stay there all day. Try to go a little faster each time you go down the mountain. Wait a few more seconds until you put the brakes on when you get scared. Start with a small jump and move up to a bigger one the next time you go up. You need to start progressing even if you do it slowly. Wake up early and do as much runs as you can each day and if you take more chances on each run you’ll be doing exciting stuff by the end of the week.
Let go of your fear

Everyone is afraid of something, but you need to try and let go as much of the fear as possible. It’s easy to do and you can start now. You just need to start doing things that frighten you and you will gain more confidence. It doesn’t even have to be anything to do with skiing. You should also start to meditate because you will learn to calm your mind and control your emotions. When you get to the top of the slope you won’t be afraid anymore.
You are definitely ready
The next time you go skiing you will attempt exciting things because you now know how to get yourself ready. Just wait until you’re thundering down the mountain and you will feel like a million bucks. There are a few things we’ve talked about that you can start doing now, so are you ready to start improving?
