If you are thinking of heading to South America this year, maybe on one of the South American tours via adventureworld.com.au, here are some tips for packing that may help you enjoy your holiday.
Planning
Make list after list. This should be done months in advance of the trip date. Bear in mind that South America is a big continent and the climate varies widely. Mexico is near to the equator and therefore is a hot, dry country. The Brazilian jungles are humid, and the most southerly regions can even be wet and very cold. Your list should detail every item you can think of; nothing is too silly at this stage. When the list is complete, begin to strike things off it one by one. After you have done this you will have a good idea of what you need to pack. Here are a few ideas that will help to guide your thoughts.
- Medicines. It is vital that you take a good supply of your regular medication. Consider what would happen if flights around the world were grounded for an extended period of time, meaning that you can’t get home on your expected date. This has happened before, as you are well aware, and it could happen again. Could you get by without your medication? Be wise and pack more than you need.
- Sunscreen. It is likely to be very hot where you are going, so if you have a preferred brand of sunscreen, take plenty of it along with you. It may not be available in the shops at your destination.
- Clothing. Though the days may be hot, the nights can be very cold. Remember to take some medium weight tops for the chilly evenings.
- Toiletries. Don’t forget your toothbrush, as the saying goes. Pack soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, and other toiletries that you will need while you are out there. If a lady forgets her make-up, it may affect the whole experience for her, so make sure it is all on the list.
Baggage Allowances
Always check the weight and dimensions of bags you are allowed to stow on the plane with the airline. If your case is overweight it will be quite expensive in excess baggage charges, unless you are willing to unload some items at the airport. Check what is allowable in hand luggage too, as lots of items such as sharps and many fluids are banned since the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
Now you are armed with everything you need to know about packing for your holiday, you will be able to relax and look forward to it confidently. Have a great time.
