If you have always wanted to experience carnival but haven’t made it to Rio then head for 2nd Avenue in NYC in February for the Mardi Gras Stroll. The street comes alive with parades and beautifully dressed dancers who hand out party favors such as beads and sweets. Onlookers are encouraged to get into the spirit by choosing a mask from the many on offer in local shops and also the bars and restaurants all offer lots of themed food and drinks at special prices.

If you happen to find yourself with some free time during March then get yourself to NYC so you can experience one of the greatest St Patrick’s Day celebrations on earth. Every corner of the city turns green while people celebrate the day of the Irish saint and there is also plenty of the black stuff poured into glasses when people make various toasts. The day is topped off with a parade that starts on 5th Avenue at 11am and makes its way around the city to ensure that everyone has a chance to experience it.

April sees the start of the major league baseball and major league soccer seasons. These are the events that really signify the start of spring for New Yorkers and there is a party atmosphere at the first few games.

There is also an Easter Parade where everyone can join in the Easter bonnet competition. The motor show opens at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Centre, there is a national tartan day and even a wedding show; so there is plenty to do and see in NYC during this month.

May is host to food festivals; art exhibitions; antique fairs; and so much more as the weather starts to warm up and many more events are able to be held outdoors.

June has the Jazz festival throughout the month where people are able to catch a concert at one of the well known concert halls or pop into a jazz club and catch an impromptu concert by one of the jazz greats. Staten Island is also host to JuneFest which has lots of concerts and exhibitions and signals the start of the summer season.

So there you have just a tiny selection of the must-see upcoming events in NYC for the first half of the year. The second half has delights such as concerts, more sporting events, film festivals, drag queen parades, comedy festivals, Oktoberfest, and so much more. The sheer number of must-see upcoming events in NYC is just one of the things that make this the perfect city break destination. Because you know that no matter what time of year you come, there will always be something worth visiting or taking part in.

So, what are you waitng for? Book your hotel in New York (in Sweden we say hotell New York) and you are ready to go to the Big Apple.
