Ideal for summer weddings, the festival takes place on the fourth Wednesday in August in a village called Buñol near Valencia and dates back to the 1940s. Every year, large crowds of people from around the globe gather to throw tomatoes at each other at what has become the largest food fight in the world. The event starts by someone trying to climb a greasy pole to reach a ham at the top, once the ham has been knocked to the ground the fight can begin and the sights are something to behold.
