A honeymoon is one of the most exciting parts about getting married and many couples spend a long time deciding on the perfect place to go. Some love birds simply want to retreat to a luxurious island to bathe in the sun from dawn to dusk, while others fancy something a little more adventurous.

If you live on the wild side or fancy an adventure of a lifetime, why not check out these five rather obscure dating destinations? Let your hair down after the stress of your big day and enjoy a crazy experience you won’t forget.

    1.Desert Safari
Discover some of the most beautiful places in the world on a desert safari. Zoom across the sand in what is known as Dune Bashing, ride camels into the night and take in the true grandeur of your surroundings. Experience belly dancing at its best, marvel at wonderful Arabic clothes and even satisfy your hunger with some excellently prepared delicacies. There are a whole range of trips to choose from, so if you can stand the heat this is a great honeymoon idea for you.

    2.Ghost Hunting
Ever wondered if things really do go bump in the night? Why not spend your honeymoon ghost hunting? Brave the night in some of the most terrifying buildings and test your nerves to the max as you try to uncover spooky spirits and ghastly ghouls – if you dare. Unravel the dark history of haunted hotels, creepy castles or petrifying prisons and discover who could be lurking in the shadows, but beware, thing are more sinister after dark. Are you brave enough to be left alone?

    3.La Tomatina Festival
If you are the sort of couple who absolutely loves anything a little but weird or wacky, La Tomatina Festival in Spain could be a great event to incorporate into your honeymoon. Ideal for summer weddings, the festival takes place on the fourth Wednesday in August in a village called Buñol near Valencia and dates back to the 1940s. Every year, large crowds of people from around the globe gather to throw tomatoes at each other at what has become the largest food fight in the world. The event starts by someone trying to climb a greasy pole to reach a ham at the top, once the ham has been knocked to the ground the fight can begin and the sights are something to behold.

    4.Hill Tribe Trek, Thailand
Venture to South East Asia and discover the mystical land of Thailand, a country perfect for budding adventurers and explorers. Pack a back pack, plenty of water and a sleeping bag and head into the natural forest of this beautiful destination. Enjoy a physical and emotional challenge as you climb steep slopes through tough terrain and meet the ethnic hill tribes who have lived in the rural areas for centuries. Create memories of a lifetime and bond with your partner on a trip that will stay with your forever.

    5.Volunteering
How about spending you honeymoon volunteering for a charity or non profit organisation and spending quality timing together helping others? Jet off to Africa to teach kids English for a few weeks, help with building projects in South America, or even help poverty stricken areas in India. There are so many organisations crying out for volunteers, so if you fancy doing something totally different perhaps consider this as an option.

Honeymoons really are an exciting time of any newlyweds’ lives and are a great opportunity to do something extreme. Combine your passions with things you have always wanted to do and have a great trip.

If this article has inspired you to get away on a romantic break, or take a honeymoon in an obscure place, then remember to do your research and book a hotel well in advance.
