Sea of Colorful Butterflies over Pang Sida Forest

Flourishingly lush green natural forest always draws flocks of animals – wild elephant, wild buffalo, deer, boar, tiger, birds, peacocks and many other more. These vibrant existing of wildlife could be seen in Pang Sida National Park, Muang district in Sa Kaeo province where over 400 species of colorful butterflies fly all over the vast plain during late summer in April till mid rainy season in July. They attribute to the charm drawing in the eco-tourism minded visitors.

To do 'butterflies watch' could be a whole day activity as each species has its own rhythm of feeding time. But the morning would be the best time to watch butterflies. They would sit quite still on leaves to dry themselves and warm their wings before taking off and searching for food.We could use binoculars for bird watch to closely watch butterflies too. Starting from the front entrance of the national park to the tourist information center, guest houses, Pang Sida waterfall and all the way up to scenic view point at the 25th kilometer pole-mark, you would see them everywhere. The majority at this time of the year are the Noan-koon butterflies, the spotted sword-tail; the striped sword-tail, the Noan Bai-goom, the Noan Jampee and the zebra pattern and so much more…

If you have one or two days to visit Sa Kaeo, a stop over at Pang Sida is highly recommended to include in your travel program. You could start off early in the morning with a visit to the 'Rong Krue Market' the largest border market in the east, tasting some delicious food there, then carry on to 'Sadok Kok Thom ruin' to see and learn about the Khmer history and civilization. In the afternoon you could take a local transport 'E-tak' car to see ΅Lalu' the nature-created amazing sight of earth poles created by the water flow through the large area of earth soil.

At the end of the day you could spend a night at the Pang Sida National Park. The next morning would be the best time to visit the east forest and watch the sea of colorful butterflies before returning home.
