Sights and Attractions for a Family Holiday to Majorca

More than 11 million tourists descend on Majorca every year, and with its glorious sandy beaches and areas of stunning natural beauty, it’s not hard to see why. It’s the perfect holiday destination for families on a budget, but Majorca has so much more to offer than simply sun, sea and sand.

Not only is it a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of life at home, but experiencing the culture of Majorca is an experience in itself. From enchanting caves to high-thrill waterparks and fantastic aquariums, check out our favourite sights and attractions for families in Majorca.

Aquariums, Marine Parks and Natural Attractions

At Palma Aquarium kids can get up close and personal with a whole host of beautiful (and often terrifying) sea creatures from all over the world. Older kids will also love swimming with the rays or braving a “Shark Sleepover”.

If you’re near Costa d’en Blanes you should check out the fantastic sea lion and dolphin show at Marine Land or take a stroll around the tropical house and aviary which features animals such as large snakes, lizards, piranhas, and exotic bird species. Landlubbers might also want to check out the island’s Safari Zoo or La Reserva Nature Park.

    Beautiful Beaches

You’ll be spoiled for choice from the miles of sandy beaches on offer on the island, but the best place to head to for family-friendly sunbathing is the popular resort of Cala D’Or. Its sheltered cove areas boast calm and gentle waters that are great fun for the kids to splash around in. For less crowded surroundings, head to Playa de Muro near Alcudia or splash around and enjoy water activities such as jet skiing, water skiing or paragliding in the shallow waters around the Playa de Palma.

    Action-Packed Water Parks

If feeling the sand between your toes isn’t for you, you might want to head to one of the island’s many family-friendly water parks. Based in Aranel, Aqualand offers high-adrenaline rides such as the “Tornado”, “Rapids” and “Anoconda” while WesternPark Water Park in Magaluf features thrills such as “The Beast”, “The Boomerang” and the “Mega Slide”.

For other activities and things to do with younger kids, head to HidroPark in Alcudia where you’ll find golfing, bouncy castles and trampolines as well as the usual thrill rides. Water parks aren’t always the cheapest attractions though, so save yourself some money and check out cheapflights.co.uk for great deals on flights to Majorca.

    Enchanting Caves

Located on the east coast of the island, The Cavern of the Dragon is the island’s most enchanting cave and a must-see on any family holiday to Majorca. At almost 2,400 metres tall it really is spectacular and tours of it include a short concert and a light show that imitates sunset over the lake. Equally noteworthy is the charming Cavern of Arta in the north, which boasts a special effects tour highlighting the magnificent deep reds, purples and greens of the fascinating stalagmites and stalactites.

    1. Thank you for this post. My husband and I are planning to spend cheap holidays to Majorca together with the kids. I think the activities you mentioned here are awesome for the whole family. Thanks! Can you suggest an outfitter who can guide us inside the caves? Do we need a guide to go inside or not?
