Rhodes is home to a plethora of beaches, many of which are fantastic destinations for a memorable beach holiday. As one of Greece’s premier tourist destinations, Rhodes should not be overlooked. The island contains an abundance of sandy beaches and rocky coves, perfect for water sport lovers and even seclusion. The best beaches on Rhodes are found across the coastline.
Kalathos Beach is found about 50kms south of Rhodes Town. It is often regarded as the best beach on the island, as it boasts golden sands trimmed by crystal blue water. In addition, Kalathos Beach offers plenty of rental equipment, including umbrellas and sun chairs. Don’t be surprised if the beach gets crowded though, especially during the hottest months of June and July.
The longest beach on Rhodes is Faliraki Beach, situated on the northeastern coastline. Unfortunately, the beach is no secret, so hundreds of tourists flock to Faliraki everyday during the summer months. Nevertheless, it is possible to find space further down the beach due to its length. Water sport facilities are available and the tavernas lining the beach provide great spots for refreshments.
If crowds are not desired, then head to stunning Tsambika Beach. Located close to the township of Kolymbari, this sandy beach has enough sun beds and umbrellas for anyone who wants to hire them. There is also a plethora of water sport amenities too, so the beach is perfect for the entire family.
Another great beach for families is Stegna Beach. It is situated only 30kms from the capital of Rhodes and contains plenty of rocky outcrops, clear water and an abundance of equipment for hire. Swimming and sun-baking may be popular at other beaches, but Stegna boasts a great spot for beginner snorkellers.
Kite surfers and wind surfers are not left out when venturing to Rhodes. The western coast’s Ixia Beach is renowned for its fantastic windsurfing and kite surfing. For the best conditions, head to the beach in the evening, when the winds pick up. This beach is also a great destination for beginner surfers, too.
For couples, there is no better destination on Rhodes than Anthony Quinn Beach. This fantastic spot is dotted with small, rocky pools that are perfect for a relaxing cool down. In addition to the great swimming opportunities, Anthony Quinn Beach is the place to go for some of Rhodes’ best seafood establishments.
Among the best beaches on the island of Rhodes is Lindos Beach. Families will absolutely love the facilities at this east coast beach, especially the water sports equipment. There are also a number of beachfront restaurants and cafés providing ideal escapes from the sun here. During the summer months, snorkelling and bathing are popular in the bay around the corner.
If Lindos Beach gets too busy, then simply travel a few minutes along the coast to Pefkos Beach. This strip of golden sand is only small, but it rarely gets busy due to its relative closeness to Lindos. Umbrellas and sun chairs are available to rent by the day and are recommended as there is little shade on the beach. If beach-goers need to get out of the sun, head to one of the cafés or restaurants just off the sand.
