Here’s our quick guide to the most beautiful spots for rock climbing in the UK.

Scotland offers some of the more tranquil rock climbing hot spots in the UK since they are less crowded than other locations. For those interested in making the long but worthwhile journey through Creag and Dubh Loch high in the Cairngorms, the climb can be reached on foot in around two hours. For those in search of rest bite and refreshment on the picturesque climb, there is reasonably cheap accommodation available near and around the climbing highlights.

    Peak District

With so many beautiful locations, the Peak District will leave many a rock climber spoilt for choice. With over 10,000 recorded climbs, the Peak District remains one of the most popular locations for leisurely climbs and extreme sport climbing thanks to the grit stone which provides a great amount of friction.

While the dips and valleys in Wales are relatively small in comparison to many other locations, the mountain range, particularly Snowdonia is home to some of the most varied rock climbing spots in the UK. The Welsh coast offers sport climbing on the cliff face as well as more traditional and lower grade climbing routes found on the slate quarries and limestone cliffs in Llandudno.

    Lake District

Last but certainly not least is the place often cited as the rock climber’s location of choice and it’s not hard to see why. The majestic hills and mountains inspired the poetry of Wordsworth and just five minutes spent climbing its lofty mountains and deep crags will inspire awe in even the hardest of cynics. With various rock types and crag grades, there is something for every kind of rock climber in the Cumbrian hills.
