Here are 5 post-vacation things you must do once you get back home.

    Sort Through Your Mail

Whether you’ve been gone on vacation for a couple of days or an entire week, your mail can quickly accumulate. So one of the first things you need to do once you return from vacation is to collect and sort through your mail. To make this job easier, you should divide your mail into separate piles while you are sorting through it. It’s recommended that you create one pile for bills or important items, one pile for magazines or newsletters, and one pile for junk mail.

    Unpack Your Luggage

Although you may have been freely living out of your luggage during your vacation, it’s now time to unpack. To avoid bringing unwanted guests such as bed bugs into your home, you should leave your luggage outside and unpack in an area such as your garage or backyard. This is extremely important if you have stayed in a hotel. If you do discover bed bugs while unpacking, place your luggage into a sack to immediate isolate them. If this does not work, you’ll need to call an exterminator.

    Do Your Laundry

If you didn’t have access to a washer and dryer, dirty laundry can easily pile up when you’re on vacation. Therefore, while unpacking your luggage, take the time to sort your clothing based on the way you usually wash them. Once your clothing is sorted properly, wash a load in between doing other things around the house. By following this step, it will keep you from having double laundry duty at the end of the week or next weekend.

    Organize Your Vacation Keepsakes

When you and your family go on vacation, you may bring back souvenirs such as maps and t-shirts along with a camera full of beautiful and fun pictures. To avoid your souvenirs being misplaced, you should organize them and pack them away in a safe place. If the souvenirs are for family and friends, you should wrap them up and place them in a safe place inside your car so you do not forget to deliver them. For your pictures, it’s best to upload them to your computer or a CD for safekeeping.

    Take Time to Relax

Even though vacations are supposed to be relaxing, you may come back home exhausted due to all of your fun activities. So take some time to relax when you return back home. If possible, you should try to come back home at least two days before you and your family need to go back to work or school. One of these days should be scheduled as a “Do Nothing but Relax” day to help you wind down.

By following these tips, you’ll be able to get a jumpstart on getting back to your daily routine. The key thing to remember is to take it slow to avoid overloading yourself.
