5 Things You Must Do Whilst In Mexico

When you think of Mexico you probably think of tacos, tequila, spicy food and possibly running from the FBI, but assuming for a moment that you aren’t a desperate fugitive trying avoid prison time, there is much more to this country than Hollywood let’s on about.

Here’s a run down of 5 things that the law abiding traveller can enjoy:

    Go Diving at Arrecife Palancar

Just less than a mile from Cozumel is this diving heaven with crystal clear waters and some wonderfully colourful marine life. The deepest areas are 80 foot deep, perfect for adventure and deep sea diving fans and to the north there are cavern diving opportunities too.

    The Tequila Express

Ok, so there’s no escaping it, when in Mexico you have to indulge in some Tequilla. So why not take the train? Going from Guadalajara to the Hacienda de San Jose del Refugio (the home of Tequilla). The journey is essentially an excuse to get boozed up, but in a cultural way. Enjoy!

    Enjoy The Forrest From Above

The idea is simple, you get a tour of the forrest canopies via a maze of cables and pullies which tow you from tree top to tree top, at the same time your guide will tell you all about the eco-system and wildlife on the forrest floor below you.

    Turibus

The name says it all really, it’s a tour bus which takes you all around Mexico city. The buses circle constantly and you can get on or off wherever you like, so as soon as you see something that looks interesting you are free to explore and catch the next turibus that comes along when you’re done.

    Teotihuacan

Who said mexico is all about colourful boats and floppy hats? This ancient Aztec site dates all the way back to 150BC. It is one of the most visited and perhaps significant archaeological sites in the world. Highlights include the third largest pyramid in the world and the street of the dead.

    Xochimilco

This area used to be an ancient lake “Lago Xochimilco”, but has since been turned into a labyrinth of canals, full of colourful Mexican boats which double as novel floating restaurants. Take a seat, eat a little whilst you float along the waterways and if you like you can even be serenaded by a band which will follow in another boat!

    1. I have been to Mexico, like, probably a thousand times! I live in San Diego, so going to Mexico is like going to the mall practically. How could I NOT have known that Mexico had all of this cool stuff?! I totally didn’t even know that Mexico had pyramids! I am researching and planning for my next trip right now, and I am going to make sure I seem the pyramids and canals of Xochimilco, they sounds so amazing! Thank you so much for opening my eyes!
