1. The Etosha National Park is located in Namibia and is home to the now endangered black rhino and Africa’s tallest elephants. There are also additional 91 mammals that live in the park and visitors will have the opportunity to view giraffes, lions and possibly even the sometimes elusive cheetahs and leopards. There is also a great variety of birdlife that live here so be sure to bring a bird book with you.
2. The Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya is probably one of the best known destinations for a safari trip. The reserve is home to a large number of species of birds and wildlife and visitors are rarely disappointed when they decide to take a safari trip here. However, during the months of July to October the reserve is the place to be if you want to see one of the most magical wonders of the world – the mass migration of zebra and wildebeest; truly un-missable.
3. The South Luangwa National Park is the perfect destination for safari trips that suit all budgets. The park has lodgings at various different price ranges although even the budget lodges are spacious, well presented with good facilities. The South Luangwa National Park is the home of the walking safari, which allows you to explore further and get closer to the animals, and it really offers a true taste of Africa.
4. The Okavango Delta in Botswana offers a fairly unique safari opportunity in that you can do most of it from a traditional canoe as you travel along the river. Each year the Okavango River floods the delta drawing in the animals, which means the best place to see them up close is from the safety of a canoe as it drifts gently down the river. This truly is a magical experience and you are able to see the animals much more clearly than in other destinations for safari trips.
5. Lastly we have the Kruger National Park in South Africa. This enormous park has a huge variety of species and good numbers of most of them which means that visitors are getting the best chance to view them. The park is also one of the best managed in the whole of Africa and has many different programs running to ensure the continued survival of the wildlife and birdlife that call this place home. There are also a great number of accommodation options and a well planned infrastructure. It is easy to see why this is one of the most popular destinations for a safari trip.
