Top 5 Things To Do In Rocky Point, Mexico

Beach vacations in Mexico have always been popular with travelers because they are beautiful and reasonably priced. A couple of years ago we discovered a little-known beach town called Puerto Penasco, or Rocky Point in English. It’s in the crook of the elbow of land between Baja and the Mexican mainland. There is only a tiny airport, so most vacationers come in by car. If you love the laid-back Latin ambiance and richly spiced food of Mexico, this is a beach vacation you have got to give a try.

Here’s what we think are the top five things to do in Puerto Penasco:

    1. Scuba Dive. The clear waters and abundant ocean life near the shore make Rocky Point a scuba diver’s idea of heaven. There are several companies that organize group trips and offer classes.

    2. Golf. There are three championship courses located in and around Puerto Penasco with holes so beautiful and challenging you will never tire of playing them.

    3. Fishing. Ocean fishing is so unlike fresh-water fishing the two can almost not be compared. If, like we did, you are working with FMIrentals.com, ask them to identify a reputable fishing adventure charter company that will handle a day trip soup to nuts.

    4. ATVs. Sand dunes that beg to be conquered by a Quad surround Rocky Point. Again, there are several companies that rent vehicles, so ask FMIrentals.com which company is the best.

    5. Sit on your veranda with a Margarita in your hand and watch the tide come in and go out. We’re not kidding about this and we have spent many a day doing just that. We use FMIrentals.com to find fantastic accommodations, usually a three-bedroom villa all to ourselves for less than one of the resort hotels would be. We always ask for a deck facing the ocean so we can sit in a chair and watch the day go by without doing a darn thing.

Rocky Point is the best beach vacation spot we have ever experienced. If you like Mexico, you will LOVE Puerto Penasco!
