A trip to Italy wouldn’t be complete without indulging in the famous cuisine and wine. A country full of delicious delights, it’s hard not to indulge all day long. On my trips to Italy, most of the time it revolves around what new dish I am going to try next! Italian menus normally consist of Italian Appetisers (antipasti), the first course (primo), the second or main course (secondo), side dishes (contorni) and dessert (dolce). That’s a lot of food and too good to turn down. I love good food and wine and so do the Italian’s so have you ever asked yourself how the Italian men and women stay so sexy, curvy and toned? So how do you stay fit on a holiday to Italy whilst still being able to enjoy the country’s main highlight?
1 – Walking
Italy’s many fabulous cities streets are the most beautiful treadmill you will find. Wander the cobbled streets all day long of cities such as Rome, Verona and Florence. You will find whilst sightseeing you will be on your feet all day making those little food stops on the way, much more justified. A holiday to one of Italy’s cities isn’t a relaxing one as there is so much to see and explore.
2 – Hiking or Jogging
Whilst staying in Italy’s breathtaking countryside of Tuscany, take yourself off the beaten track and have an experience you never would have otherwise. The rolling hills of Tuscany are stunning and is a region of traditional living and is set amongst some of the most spectacular scenery. With many walks, cycling, horse riding opportunities it’s an active person’s ideal holiday.

3 – Gym
If you are a fitness freak or you like the occasional trip to the gym, perhaps look at the facilities of the hotel you are staying at for a gym. If you stay in the centre of one of Italy’s cities, they tend to be smaller boutique hotels so facilities like the gym might not be as easy to come across. Your hotel will be able to point you in the direction of the nearest gym. But before you consider a hotel for their gym facilities or location by the nearest gym, don’t forget you will be walking most of the day which is some of the best kinds of exercise.
4 – Walk the historic sites
As well as walking the streets of Italy, visit and walk around their historic sites. Not only will you be able to experience some of the world’s marvels but you will spend time walking back and forth taking it all in. Climb the Spanish Steps, walk the walls of the Coliseum and its Forum and explore the Vatican’s museums. This is just in Rome! I think you have earned that creamy pasta and large glass of wine!
5 – Get in the pool
If you are looking for more than sightseeing, but relaxation too then a hotel with a pool would be perfect. But don’t just sit around it, get in the pool! Enjoying the sun, water and some lengths at the same time will be great for you!
6 – Enjoy the local cuisine
Local cuisine will be a lot healthier and will contain better and fresh produce/ingredients. Dine in the lesser known restaurants, you see a place full of the locals, it’s bound to be good. Find the family run, locally owned restaurants. You will find the loveliest recipes and the atmosphere is guaranteed to be great!
7 – Drinks lots of water
Italy boasts lots of free water fountains throughout its cities. Take advantage of these and make regular stops for water. Staying hydrated is the most important thing!
