IDEAS

Waterway to spend a stag weekend!

One of the most important jobs of being a best man is to arrange a stag do which is often easier said than done. After all, you can’t stand the notion of being that guy whose stag do weekend went bust. Another night at the same shoddy club just won’t do.

Searching the internet will give you some great ideas that offer something a little different to your average stag do but there’s one idea in particular which we want to talk about today which is growing in popularity – a stag weekend on a canal boat.

The UK’s scenic waterways are perfect for those who don’t want to be tied to the land or get stuck in traffic but who want the entire trip to be an adventure and a party.

Spending time on a canal boat is relaxing with the tranquil countryside as your neighbour but it’s also a great laugh. Everyone loves having a go at being captain and working the locks is also great fun requiring teamwork to get where you want to go.

You can hire a canal boat for the day, weekend or the whole week from a reputable company like Anglo Welsh and the cost comes down the more of you there are so it’s perfect for large groups of guys. There are also some great savings to be made online with last minute deals so keep an eye out for those.

Hiring a canal boat (or narrowboat) for the first time with your mates may seem a daunting idea if you have never operated one before but don’t worry! Everything is clearly explained beforehand by the canal holiday company guide who will provide simple instructions about operating the boat and the locks. If you can drive a car, you can steer a narrowboat.

The UK waterways cut through cities as well as the tranquil countryside offering stag parties the option of stopping at country pubs or spending an evening clubbing in a city like Birmingham. There are more canals in Birmingham than there are in Venice, so places to go and ways to get there in a canal boat are plentiful.

Since you’re celebrating your best friend as his last days of being single, the stag do weekend should be all about him and what he would like to do. All grooms-to-be will enjoy the luxurious accommodations on board a narrowboat. Similar to the accommodations of a luxury hotel, these boats offer mobility and flexibility difficult to find on land.

Some grooms will want to take advantage of the mobility of a canal boat hire to visit as many pubs and party spots as possible, relying on mates to navigate the boat down the canal and over locks to each new location. Others will perhaps party at a pub or two and then return to the boat for some rest before moving on down the canal and enjoying life on the water.

Other popular things to do on a boat are card games like poker, drinking games, you might bring a games console to use on the tv or dvd player and watch some great films. There is no one right way to enjoy a stag do weekend.

A stag weekend on a canal boat does provide a unique atmosphere of relaxation and fun but also of exploration. Journeying along a canal seems to set a man free and refreshes the soul.
