What’s On: Live Entertainment in Birmingham – Top 10 this winter

As the second largest city in England, it’s no wonder the Midlands metropolis of Birmingham has its fair share of live entertainment venues. Whether it’s music, theatre or live performance you’re after, this winter is no different than any other time of the year – Birmingham has loads to offer you during January and February.

Spend an evening in the city and avoid the hassle of travelling back home once the entertainment is over. With plenty of cheap hotels in Birmingham centre, you can be as frugal as you like, while still having a comfortable room for the night.

Madagascar Live 2013 will take to the LG Arena stage from the 18th January, based on the hit DreamWorks franchise. All the familiar characters have taken some time out from zoo life, to provide you and your family with a fun-filled evening. Don’t be surprised if your kids jump up and dance to Move It Move It like they would in their living room watching the films.

Also kicking off on the 18th January is the Strictly Come Dancing Live! shows, at the National Indoor Arena. If you haven’t already secured your ticket, you’ll be hard pushed to find one for these six sell out shows, unless you’re lucky enough to grab one online. Those that are fortunate to see it can expect a star-studded line up, including Denise van Outen and Phil Tufnell.

On the 24th January, the LG Arena plays host to 70s singing sensations, Donny & Marie Osmond. They have never toured the UK together before, so if a touch of nostalgia is what you’re after, look no further.

Meanwhile, the following day at the same venue, you can find modern day heartthrob, Ronan Keating take to the stage, to perform some of his classic hits as well as some new tracks from his latest album, Fires.

For fans of riff-tastic rock music, head over to the Classic Rock Show at the Town Hall on the 25th January for an evening of air guitar worthy tunes, including hits by Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd and Meatloaf.

He may have recently starred alongside Ray Winstone in a remake of The Sweeney, but Ben Drew is also known for his work in the music industry as British rapper, Plan B. You can see him at the LG Arena on the 8th February. Also supporting the wave of fresh British talent is Rita Ora who is playing at the O2 Academy the following day.

For those who have been watching the latest series of the X Factor, the live tour arrives at the LG Arena for a 2 date stop on the 9th and 10th February. Catch some of your favourite acts from the 2012 final stage and enjoy the voice of winner, James Arthur.

Let’s not forget the alternative metal fans – American group, the Deftones will be at the O2 Academy on the 19th February for an opportunity to hear the unique vocals of Chino Moreno.

Finally, for the kids, Disney on Ice arrives at the LG Arena on the 21st February for the latest in a string of popular shows starring some of the favourite Disney characters.

Take your pick and enjoy an entertainment-fuelled evening in Birmingham this winter.
