Now the gloom and doom of Christmas has passed, it’s time to plan this year’s holiday. One of the pitfalls of planning a holiday, for me, is the vast amount of choices of the type of holiday you should take.
We’ve all taken a beach holiday, where we have slobbed around in shorts and flip flops for a week, but sometimes it is a welcome treat to take a break from the holiday norm and plan something a little more ‘out there’.
Here are five travel ideas that you definitely do this year:
Ski Holidays
Skiing is not just the preserve of the rich and famous. Even us mere mortals should have access to the piste and the lodge. A skiing holiday can seem a little daunting, particularly if this is an entirely new experience, but don’t be put off. Treat your ski holiday like other holidays you have planned. What experience do you desire? What resort would you like to stay in? Do you want an adults only resort or somewhere with a family focus? Do you want lessons all day or would you like more time to unwind? Ski Armadillo have some great packages available, for the novice and for the more experienced skier. Ski resorts typically nestle in Europe and so is perfect if you prefer a holiday destination that is short haul.

Scuba Diving Holidays
Scuba diving is a form of underwater diving that allows you to take in the beautiful marine life around you. Scuba diving tends to be undertaken in warmer climes, so if catching some rays (as well as observing the rays) is a prerequisite of your travel choices, then a scuba diving holiday may be the perfect choice for you. Scuba diving can be undertaken in Egypt, Coco Islands, Cuba, Sri Lanka, as well as many more exotic and far flung destinations.
Adventure Holidays
Take adventure to the extreme with an adventure holiday. Typically adventure holidays offer a wide range of pursuits on various days which allow you total freedom to try something new, or to continue with a pursuit that you have been doing for a while. Typical pursuits can include white water rafting, mountain biking, canyoning, mountaineering and hiking. Popular destinations for adventure holidays include Croatia, Slovakia and Bali.

Animal Based Holidays
Relaxing with animals seems to be on everyone’s bucket list, so why not make it one of your travel ideas for the year. Animal holidays are increasingly popular and even more so with the vast amounts of national parks and conservation programs that are prevalent globally. Choices include playing with orangutans in Borneo, swimming with dolphins in Cuba, feeding wild monkeys in India and camel trekking in Mongolia. The cultural elements to these holidays make it a winner all round.

Road Trip
A road trip is not just the preference of students; this can be done in the lap of luxury in a Winnebago or getting back to basics and taking everything in on a motorcycle. The road trip ensures that you see everything and more in your country of choice. The great thing about the road trip is that it can be done in any country you choose. Popular destinations include The United States of America and Australia, simply because these countries are too vast to take in during a two-week stay. Imagine yourself driving or cruising around these beautiful countries, with the entire itinerary based on your own personal preference.

Whatever kind of holiday you choose to take this year (or if you’re lucky, all of the above!) make sure you have a great time. There is nothing better than taking a break from the daily grind and immersing yourself into fun.
