7 Greek Islands must visit 2019

If you have never been on the Greek islands before, a good idea would be to visit more than one in one trip. This way you will save time and money from the air tickets, especially if you are coming from a faraway country.

Greece has hundreds of islands, big or small, touristic or serene. It is up to you to choose which lifestyle you prefer for your vacations. No matter which island you choose, you will experience the traditional Greek hospitality, the natural beauty of the beaches and the sea, the warm weather and a relaxing and refreshing way of living.

The most cosmopolitan island in Greece is definitely Mykonos. It has an intense night life with crazy parties going on at its numerous night clubs. There are a lot of glamorous villas for rent in Mykonos and 5 star hotels offer an elegant accommodation and the cosmopolitan lifestyle attracts lots of international celebrities and jet setters.

Some of the things you shouldn’t miss at Mykonos are the southern sandy beaches, the Windmills that welcome you at Mykonos Town, Little Venice with the unusual architecture, Old Town with the traditional Cycladic houses and stone paved narrow alleys, some of the 500 churches of the island and Delos, the sacred birth place of Apollo and Artemis.

From your Mykonos Villa private veranda or garden, enjoy the unique experience of the colorful, spectacular Cycladic sunset. If you prefer to stay in a luxury hotel, we suggest you try the Myconian Imperial Resort & Thalasso Spa at Elia beach, Mykonos Blu Grecotel at Psarou beach, Mykonos Grand at Agios Ioannis or Bill & Coo Suites and Lounge at Megali Ammos beach.

Santorini or Thera is another famous touristic destination in Cyclades island complex. It has its own international airport and a lot of five star hotels and luxury villas for a high level accommodation. Best hotels in Santorini are Andronis Boutique Hotel at Oia, Santorini Princess Presidential Suites at Akrotiri and Katikies Hotel also in Oia.

Some of the best things to see or visit are:

Nea Kameni or Ifestio (The Volcano): It is the volcanic island in the center of Caldera, which began to form in 1570. By visiting Nea Kameni you will have the unique experience to walk on an active volcano. The last volcanic activity was recorded in 1950.

Ancient Thera: a great archeological site with the ruins of the ancient settlement of Santorini, founded in the 9th century BC. It dominates the Mesa Vouno mountain at a height of 385 meters.

Sunset at Oia: The cubic houses are built one at the top of the other, facing the beautiful Caldera. Oia is said to have the most spectacular sunset views.

The colorful beaches of the island: Kokkini Paralia with red cliffs and sand, Kamari, Vlyhada and Perissa with fine black sand and Aspri Paralia with white and light grey rocks and sand.

Crete is the biggest island of Greece and you will need a car to see its most important parts. You will also need a lot of time as Crete has so many unique beauties you must not miss.

Samaria Gorge is the largest in Europe with a wild, natural environment.

The Palace of Knossos, just 5 km from Heraklion, is the most popular archaeological site in Crete.

The beautiful beaches are everywhere on the island, but Elafonissi stands out. It is known for the pink and white sand and the very shallow waters.

On the Lassithi plateau, near the village of Psychro, you will find Dikteon Andro, the cave in which, according to mythology, the King of Gods, Zeus, was born and raised.

You will find a lot of good places to stay. Elounda has some great 5 star resorts and attracts famous visitors like Lady Gaga and Leonardo Di Caprio. Chania is the biggest and the most touristic city of Crete while Agios Nikolaos is much more traditional and quiet. The other two main cities of Crete are Rethymno and Heraklion.

Some of the most luxurious hotels in Crete are Mythos Palace Resort & Spa at Kavros Beach near Georgioupolis, Nana Princess Suites Villas & Spa at Hersonisos and two boutique hotels at Chania, Domus Renier and Serenissima.
