Nestled comfortably within the warm confined of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura is the antithesis of Heaven on Earth. Boasting year-round sunshine and a rushing African sea wind, it’s rife with music festivals, beach wide parties and surfing contests.
Yet at the same time, it also boasts an array of fishing villages, family-friendly resorts and natural wonders; ideal for the casual holiday goer eager to soak up some sun, culture and fine cuisine.
So, what better to do than look over what’s in store for the ardent holiday goer?
Top hotspots
With resorts that are second to none, there’s plenty for the eager holidaymaker to explore and enjoy. The hotspots include fishing village Corralejo to the north east, geological hotbed El Cotillo to the north-west and historical must-see La Oliva.
To the east sits Fuerteventura’s lively capital, Puerto del Rosario, and heading south you’ll find Fuerteventura’s busiest resort, Costa Caleta. Centred on a sheltered beach and boasting two of the island’s best golf courses, its harbour and commercial centres are favoured night spots.
Resting further south, you can see Morro Jable and Costa Calma. Sporting a slightly elevated shoreline, Calma still retains the charms of its fishing village origins while the harbour offers fantastic views of Lanzarote and Los Lobos not to mention hosting a twice-weekly market, sun-drenched beaches and world class seafood.
Natural beauty
For those with an interest in volcanos, take a quiet drive inland through the hilly dunes of Parque Natural de las Dunas in Corralejo to discover why it’s one of the most amazing natural monuments in Fuerteventura.

Volcanic peaks rise from the island’s centre in the Parque Natural de Betancuria, presenting a stark almost lunar air. While to the eastern side rests the unique and mystifying limestone caves of Ajuy, which were once hotbeds for hiding places by pirates.
Family attractions
For those seeking something a little easier from their vacations, the legendary Baku waterpark has attractions for the whole family. Dad can relax on the 18-hole mini golf course, while Mum takes a dip in their whirlpool spa and the kids can take turns flying down the park’s big attraction “Kamikaze”; a death-defying water ride that never fails to appease.
