The Best Things to Do on Your Cornish Holiday

Cornwall is one of the best loved holiday destinations in the UK, and it’s set to be as popular as ever this summer. Cornwall’s excellent reputation can be largely attributed to the beauty of the scenery and the fact that there are attractions and activities appropriate for all ages. There are even luxury boutique hotel options for those who are looking to splash out, including the accommodation offered by Chic Retreats. You don’t need to go abroad this summer to have a holiday to remember, as the beaches, the sleepy fishing villages and the nightlife of Newquay will provide for every holiday-maker’s needs.

    Learn to Surf

You’re never too old to learn a new skill and surfing is no exception. The only real requirement is that you can swim, so book yourself in for some lessons on the Cornish coast. Cornwall has some of the most stunning beaches in the UK, including the family friendly beach at Perranporth and the stretch between Polzeath and St. Ives. The surf in Cornwall is also described by thrill seekers as the best this side of Hawaii. There are plenty of different surf schools and equipment hire outlets to choose from, so get stuck in and ride some waves.

    Visit the Eden Project

The world’s largest greenhouse is the place to teach yourself and your family about biodiversity on this planet. The Project is made up of large ‘biomes’, glass shells that are big enough to hold the Tower of London inside them and it showcases more than 5,000 species of plant from a variety of climatic zones. In the summer, the Eden Project also provides live music from some of the biggest UK artists.

    Sample Local Food

If you’re not a big fan of seafood, then a trip to Cornwall might just change your mind. Visit Rick Stein’s restaurant for a taste of really high-quality seafood, and don’t miss the traditional dressed Cornish crab. The freshness of the seafood in Cornwall makes it an experience unlike what you’ve previously encountered in the supermarket. Other traditional favourites include the famous Cornish pasty and Cornish cream teas, with jam, scones and locally-made clotted cream.

    Attend the Minack Theatre

The Minack theatre is situated just beyond Penzance and is the only venue in the world where you can see dolphins playing in the ocean while you watch the actors recite Shakespeare. This summer, the shows on offer include Far From the Madding Crowd, Pygmalion and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
