Top 5 Attractions Deep in The Heart of Texas

Houston is a vibrant city with many diverse activities to choose from. Below are a couple of unique lodging options, as well as some favorite attractions that both residents and visitors from around the world may enjoy on a regular basis.

    Intriguing Lodging Options

    1. Rather than book a hotel, many visitors opt to find more home-style and even more luxurious places to stay while in town. From one day to weeks or more, there are many options to choose from offered by private home owners, rental agencies and corporate housing specialists. Home rentals have a variety of benefits such as greater privacy and a more comfortable living environment.

    2. There is no doubt that bed and breakfasts offer an experience that seems more like home. The quaint, relaxed atmosphere can be offered in private apartment complexes, condos or residences. There are also many resources to help find this type of lodging, most of which includes photographs and videos to peruse before making a decision.

    3. Motor Home and RV Parks. There are many recreational parks where visitors gather for their vacations. Whether it is the more rustic or private experience, guests appreciate the privacy and ability to include their favorite amenities for the experience.

Additionally, many of these options for lodging in Houston come with kitchen access and offer indoor and outdoor spas, as well as pools. These types of lodging literally offers all of the comforts of home and more. Prices can range from well under $100 to whatever a budget can bear per stay.

    Top Houston Attractions

    1. The Houston Zoo is home to over 4,500 animals of more than 900 species. As the nation’s 7th most visited zoo, many people spend lovely days strolling around the facility’s exquisitely landscaped grounds. Visitors are also treated to guided tours that range from feeding the animals to accompanying a staff member for the day.

    2. The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center is home to the NASA astronaut corps in Southeast Houston. The massive center covers over 1,620 acres with 100 different facilities to see. The Living in Space exhibit affords visitors with the experience of a simulated zero gravity environment and encounters with virtual rocket launches. Visitors also enjoy attending the Blast Off Theater.

    3. The Houston Museum District includes a vast collection of museums, cultural centers and galleries. Located in a mile and a half radius of Herman Park, the Museum of Fine Arts has a botanical garden in addition to over 56,000 works of art. Also located in the proximity is Houston’s Center for Photography, its only 4D theater at The John P. McGovern Health Museum, the Holocaust Museum and the Lawndale Art Center.

    4. The Downtown Aquarium includes more than 400 species of marine life, much of which calls a 150,000 gallon tank home. Visitors of all ages can enjoy watching White Tigers and many other exotic inhabitants. They can also pet stingrays and go on the thrilling Shark Voyage train ride.

    5. North Houston’s Old Town Spring mimics early 1900 America. As part of the David Canright Galveston Historical Foundation, visitors will find a collection of smaller art galleries, nostalgic Victorian antique shops, museums and restaurants. Guests may also enjoy live music at the Jailhouse Saloon.

Also in North Houston is Splashtown, featuring a lazy river, several slides and a wild wave pool. Younger visitors can enjoy the interactive play area with smaller slides and a pirate ship in Crocodile Isle.

From museums to amusement parks, Houston, also known as the Bayou City, has something for everyone to enjoy – regardless of age. The diverse and yet friendly culture of the region welcomes global visitors on a year round and regular basis.

    1. It’s been one of my dreams to visit the Downtown Aquarium in Houston for quite a while now. It’s definitely on my list of things to see when visiting America.

    2. Wow! I didn“t know Texas hada so many attractions. I love to stay in a bed and breakfast in most towns and cities I visit, specially if I find one that is nice but small. And visiting the Space Center would be my number one on the list, before anything happens I have to go and take my kids, I bet they will love it.

    3. Houston is definitely packed with sight-seeing ‘gems’! You and the kids will have a blast I’m sure!
      Enjoy!

    4. I went to Houston in the summertime when I was younger and the main thing I remember is H-U-M-I-D-I-T-Y. Unfortunately I was too young to have interest in unique sites. I would have loved to visit the Nasa center.

    5. That’s the thing when you travel young! My family traveled across country and most that I remember was the music in the car (because I heard songs 1,000x over and over) and just tidbits of sites. The best is to revisit as an adult!
