But how do you choose where to go? Here are our favourite attractions to assist you in the perfect romantic holiday!

    Wat Doi Suthep

Although there are an abundance of temples to visit in Chiang Mai this one is really worth a visit! Just outside the city is Doi Suthep, a magnificent mountain range and home to the temple Wat Doi Suthep, complete with stunning views over the region. The temple dates from 1383 and sits about 3,520 feet above sea level. It is accessible via a steep staircase of around 300 steps. Inside the temples large golden chedi (spire) lie some holy Buddha relics that attract devotees from all over the world. You can also take a walk around the beautiful grounds that reveal an array of colourful and fragrant flowers, and murals that depict Buddha’s previous lives.

    Elephant Nature Park

This award winning Elephant Nature Park is a unique conservation project, it has been in operation since the 1990s and its aim is to provide a rescue and rehabilitation centre for elephants. You can visit the park as part of a planned day trip and have a hands on experience with the elephants including feeding and bathing them. The park is located about 60km from the city, and has provided a sanctuary for numerous neglected elephants from all over Thailand.

Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park

Doi Pha Hom Pok is the northernmost national park in Thailand. The park covers an area of around 524 sq. Km and is home to the second highest mountain in the country. It is also home to the Fang Hot-springs. These 40 springs burst from hot granite with temperatures from 90 to 100 degrees Celsius with the largest spring constantly spurting out strong sulphur scented steam of up to 40m. With the year round beautiful weather the park hosts some wonderful rare trees and a variety of butterflies and orchids. Truly, it is an amazing experience for any nature lover.

    Vachiratharn Waterfall

In the Doi Inthanon National Park, halfway up Thailand’s highest mountain you will find Vachiratharn Waterfall. This waterfall is the most remarkable waterfall in the area and is often used by locals as their perfect picnic spot, a recommendation if ever there was one! The site is a visually stunning with plumes of mist rising from the water as it tumbles down the 70m rocky hillside. The perfect place to take that romantic picnic and spend an afternoon admiring the wonders of nature, and for those romantic camera shots!

    Chiang Dao Cave

Chang Dao translated means ‘City of Stars’ and after seeing this enchanting cave you will be able to see why. It is 72 km from Chiang Mai town and although there is a complex of over 100 caves only 5 are open to the public.

There are many natural formations of limestone and crystal to see, including stalactites and stalagmites. The most beautiful sights are the formations of crystals from thousands of years of water dripping through the rocks to make solid, shimmering waterfalls. Quite possibly one of the most romantic places in the world, but don’t forget your torch!

    Chiang Mai Night Safari

If you are looking for something a bit different for an evening adventure, then this is the one for you! The safari is essentially a zoo that incorporates characteristics of a theme park.  Before that puts you off it should be mentioned that it was the first ever night safari in Thailand and is considered by some to be the most beautiful night safari in the world! It is split into 3 distinct areas which you can explore using a tram that transports you around the park, or using the walking routes. There is a breathtaking musical fountain and water screen laser light show performed nightly; this alone is worthwhile reason to visit the safari.

    Chiang Mai Town

Of course, there is also Chiang Mai town. A bustling city filled with markets, museums and architecture, there are far too many things here to mention in such a small space but suffice to say there is enough to sate whatever you are looking for! Several highlights include the Tribal Museum (particularly good if you haven’t been able to get to see any of the hill tribes on your visit) and the Playhouse Theatre which showcases a host of dance and arts. And of course there is the incredible nightlife. After a few days of peaceful, romantic outings, it may be just the place to let loose!
