Edinburgh is by far a second to none city when it comes to the multitude of things to see and do. From great landmarks, museums to gardens and walks, the city has everything.

It is no different when it comes to entertainment and night life. Great clubs and pubs offer you unique and unmissable atmosphere, food and drink.
However, with such a multitude of great pubs in the city, it can be really problematic to choose where to go. It’s hard to judge a pub by its exterior alone and you might need a handy guide to get you to the best places.
Peartree House
Sunny days are scarce in Edinburgh but when they happen, Peartree is a place to be.
Located in the Old Town, close to main campus of the Edinburgh University, the pub is often frequented by students and it is not a rare sight to witness a lecture in progress in the bear garden.
The pub also hosts barbecues and live music from local bands.
The Last Drop
The Last Drop may not be located in the historically best spot (the Grassmarket, the area used for public hangings in the past) yet it is still a true delight.
This dimly lit venue offers an exceptional atmosphere to enjoy good food and drink. Wooden beams and brick archways prevail and the back room is covered in foreign notes and posters.
The King’s Wark
Located close to the Water of Leith and the Shore, The King’s Wark is a real jewel amongst Edinburgh Pubs. Situated in the 15th century building, with low ceilings and bare brick walls the pub offers an intimate atmosphere when the light dims and candles are lit.
The pub offers not only great ales, spirits and wines but also food that has already become famous in the city.
The Holyrood 9A
There is nowhere best to be when you are looking not only for drink but also some pub grub than The Holyrood 9A. The pub already made a name for itself for serving the best pub burgers in Edinburgh.
Recently redecorated the Holyrood 9A is a welcoming and atmospheric place located only a short walk from the famous Scottish Parliament.
Ensign Ewart
If you are up for a pint of Scottish ale, there is no better place to go to than Ensign Ewart. Deemed as the highest pub in Edinburgh, this small locale offers a warm and cozy atmosphere.
The pub has strong military connections through its name, being named after Charles Ewart, a soldier who captured the French standard in the 1845s battle of Waterloo. As a result the pubs decor features many army paintings and artifacts relating to that era. But don’t worry, its patrons are peaceful folk.
Ensign Ewart features live music several nights a week. You can also get something to eat in the pub.
