Sometimes, people don’t realize the opportunities available right in their own community. So often, they think that a complete change of scenery is the only way to have a break. However, it is entirely possible, and often preferable, to take your holiday at home. Maybe not strictly at your house, but within your own country.
All you have to do is take a good look around, do some research, and you’ll find that you have some completely different places on offer that you probably never knew existed, taking a holiday in your own country doesn’t have to be boring, and there are other benefits too!
Passports

Are your passports updated? They don’t have to be, if you stay in your own country. It’s amazing how much easier it is to travel if you don’t have to keep your passport updated and on hand. You can drive anywhere within your own country, and stay anywhere, and not have to check in at customs or the consulate. The time you save is all yours, to do with as you wish, and all because you stayed in-country.
Culture
Even when you enjoy exploring other cultures, there’s something about your own that welcomes you. Take a holiday in your own country, and you don’t have to worry about studying another culture. It’s an inconvenience, sometimes, learning how to NOT offend someone of another nationality, and when you stay in your own country, you know all of the customs and rituals. All you have to do is load up the campervan, and take off for your holiday. No translation apps on your iPhone, no cultural training, and no shots. Although I find learning another culture to be an interesting and satisfying experience, I love the language apps and all of that, but I will say sometimes you take a holiday to get away from using your mind. Sometimes you just want to relax!
Health
Speaking of shots, do you feel ok? Many people who have health issues often opt to stay home rather than going on holiday. What a waste! Explore your own country! You know how the medical system works in your own country, and you won’t have to worry about paying for medical care in a foreign country, should you require it. A person with a back problem shouldn’t give up travel – you can stay in your own country, and travel all you want, knowing that you “know the ropes” so to speak. When you’re trying to go abroad to take your mind of the symptoms of a serious medical condition it can be alot of hassle trying to get health insurance. They won’t ensure you if you have a serious medical condition.
Money
When you stay in your own country, you can save a lot of money on your holiday. The cost of airfare alone can fund an extra few days on your trip, or even go into savings to fund an extra holiday later on. A train ride across the country can take you away from all of your stresses, and cost a lot less. Save money by staying in-country, and enjoy nicer meals and hotels, instead. You can even take your own vehicle, if you’re not flying!
Weather
Have you ever arrived at your destination, only to find that the weather is terrible? When you stay in your own country, you are far more likely to know what to expect with the weather. You know the weather patterns, and probably have better access to weather reports for that region.
When you stay in-country for your holiday, you can learn more than you ever thought. With the extra time and money, you can visit places you never even heard of, and sometimes, get back to your own roots. And you can’t do that in a foreign country!
