Columbus, Ohio- A Hidden Gem

Columbus, Ohio is a real Midwestern treat and a city that doesn’t get a lot of press.  While the city and state are getting more attention now that the presidential election is starting to heat up, there are many great aspects of the city that make it a great vacation spot.  If you are considering a trip somewhere in the Midwest, you might want to take a look at Columbus instead of the usual picks like Chicago.  You might be surprised by what you will find.  Most people who visit Columbus find that the city is not anything like what they thought it would be.  What should you look to do if you decide to take a trip there?  We’ll list a few ideas.

    1. Take In An OSU Football Game

Big Ten football is quite a spectacle to see live, and watching an Ohio State game at the Horseshoe is the pinnacle.  With over 100,000 rabid fans watching their beloved Buckeyes, you’ll get to see an electric live event that isn’t replicated too many other places across the country.  If you head to the game early, you’ll get to participate in a tailgate with thousands of other friendly fans.

    2. Check Out German Village

At one time in the city, German immigrants comprised over one third of the entire city’s population.  Located just south of downtown, you’ll see a lovely village full of history and beautiful architecture.  The look of the buildings seem out of place when put in context with the surrounding neighborhoods, but you might think you are actually in Germany when walking through.  There are many cute little shops and restaurants with a German theme that really make the area quite a treat.

    3. Suburb Home Tour

Columbus is known for having very pretty suburbs.  Dublin is a pretty famous suburb known for being the headquarters of Wendy’s and the home of the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament.  It is also known for its gorgeous homes.  New Albany is a very iconic town with massive homes that are a treat to see.  Its very pretty white wood fence that runs through the entire town is really a sight to behold.

    4. Tour The Short North

The Short North is a very unique area of the city that has many offerings.  You can tour many wonderful art galleries, eat at amazing restaurants, and experience some of the best nightlife the city has to offer.  The area also offers several great local boutiques if you want to go shopping.

    5.  Go Golfing

You might not think so, but Columbus is a major hotbed for golf lovers.  There are many courses rated in the top 100 in the country located in and around Columbus.  Jack Nicklaus grew up in the area, so he was a driving force for golf becoming such a huge sport in the city.  In fact, the suburb of Dublin wouldn’t be much if Nicklaus hadn’t built the two Muirfield Village golf courses there many years back.  Take a look at the many courses available to you in Dublin.  Also take a look at the exclusive courses like The Golf Club and Double Eagle.  You will be surprised to see how amazing the golf courses are in this city.

If you want a city that allows you to get out in nature and enjoy fun outdoors activities, yet it also has great restaurants and fun nightlife, Columbus should be a top option for you.  It’s a city that has something for everyone.  The word is starting to spread, so we encourage you to give it a look if you ever considered taking a trip out to the Midwest.
