    Day Tripping in Egypt

Egypt certainly has charisma. It’s so different to home and your hotel is plush and offers everything you need.

All inclusive holidays to this country’s favourite holiday spots are mainly clustered around the Red Sea. This is a great base for all the most popular holiday pass times such as lounging on the beach, swimming and snorkelling and other water sports.

But are you longing to see more of this fabulous country?

Most hotels have you covered for all your meals and drinks – that’s the soft kind and local alcoholic brands. If you want imported alcohol then you will have to pay.

Also included in your deal will be the entertainment and some sports. These differ between hotels so check that out before you go. If your favourite isn’t on the list, don’t despair most things are possible for a fee.

    Extra: beginner’s scuba diving

Take a one day beginner’s scuba diving trip. Experienced and qualified divers will take you through the basics and you will actually make a dive. You’ll be hooked before you know it.

    Extra: the Pyramids at Giza

A day trip to the Pyramids is about a 2 – 3 hour drive from the Red Sea resorts. But if you’ve always dreamed of visiting them then it’s well worth the trip. The Egyptian Museum is also interesting to see many ancient artefacts including model boats that were found in King Tut’s Tomb.

    Extra: El Dahar Bazaar

This bazaar which is typical of Egyptian life is in the old town district of Hurghada. While away a morning there looking at all the spices and perfumes. Be prepared to barter if you want to buy anything – this can be a bit daunting if you are not use to doing it but it is all part of the experience of being in Egypt and is a big part of the local culture, so embrace it.

Extra: Mount Sinai and St Catherine’s Monastery

Like the Pyramids this is quite a trek but if you’re interested in seeing the oldest working monastery or the historical papers of Mount Sinai, then it’s worth it. The scenery is pretty amazing too and is sure to make all of your Facebook friends jealous when you upload them!

Extra: a day trip to Jerusalem

Get up early for this one. Jerusalem is an ancient religious hub for Christians, Muslims and Jews. You’ll get to see the Wailing Wall, Via Dolorosa where Jesus walked carrying the cross, the Garden of Gethsemane and much more. If you are a culture vulture or history buff then this really is a must see. It is worth the hassle, we promise.

    Extra: desert safaris

The most available day trips – and night trips too – are desert safaris. These might be by jeep, quad bike or camel and some with an end goal in sight. This might be a typical Bedouin feast or gazing at the stars – at night of course. Not everyone automatically thinks about spending time in the desert, but there is so much of it here that you should really try to experience it when on holidays to Egypt.
