Exploring Puerto Princesa, Palawan: Eat, Swim, and be Amazed

The most beautiful places in the world are found in the Philippines. Even though it’s a small country, its archipelago formation gave birth to numerous wonderful places. Magnificent in beauty and rich in culture, it attracts people from all over the world and with an unmatched practice of hospitality, Filipinos continue to amaze other foreigners with their indescribable smile.

Inside Puerto Princesa Underground RiverRecently I went to a place called Puerto Princesa in the island of Palawan. Still a part of the mainland of Luzon but is divided by the sea, Palawan may be the new garden of eden when it comes to beaches and relaxation methods. Thousands of tourists, both local and foreign flock this place everyday, mostly during the summer, and just washes their worries away in the pristine beaches of the island. It is also famous for food and other activities like scuba diving and boating and will definitely put a smile on even the grouchiest face.

    History

Legend has it that the name “Puerto Princesa” originated from a princess like maiden who roamed the city during certain nights of the year but traditionally it was named after Princess Eulalia of Spain who suffered an untimely death during the Spanish rule. In 1970, Puerto Princesa was proclaimed as the city’s capital and since then, it has been the nerve center of activity for the province of Palawan.

    Major Attractions

Palawan’s main attraction is its pristine, white beaches. Fine white sand lie almost everywhere in beach, plus crystal clear blue waters add to the sparkling effect that usually captures tourists’ attention. You can enjoy the seaside by going to beach resorts, namely Puerto Beach Resort, Sunrise Mansion and Villa Leonora, which are considered the best in hospitality accommodation. Also the Nagtabon Beach, which s an 800 meter stretch of sand and soil that is just offshore will give you fun activities such as water skiing, wake boarding and surfing.

The Puerto Princesa Underground River Park is another major attraction in Palawan. This place was considered as one of the new 7 Wonders of Nature and has grown lovelier ever since. With an underground cave that is filled with beautiful stalagamite and stalactite arrangements, cave rooms and bats backed up by crystal clear water, the cave is definitely an exciting place to visit.

Dolphin watching and scuba diving are one of the most famous activities that can be done in Puerto princesa. With over 100 professional scuba instructors, you can learn how to dive in no time and see the wonders of the deep. Also, bottle nosed dolphins can be seen from a far or via boat. Its really fun watching them play and show off their skills in the water.

    Food

Palawan is famous for its seafood cuisine. From lobsters to oysters, squid to octopus and tuna to blue marlin, Puerto Princesa has it all. You just have to know where these places are at and I assure you that your stomachs will be filled in no time. I highly recommend that you try eating at the Badjao Waterfront Seafood Restaurant since its popularity is backed up by its reputation.

A 3 day stay in beautiful Puerto Princesa is not enough if you really want to see the city’s real side. There is much more to be discovered, so I suggest that you save up your money and sick leaves so that you can enjoy a more longer and pleasant time in the Philippines.
