Here are just a few ideas of how to get the most out of your motorhome this winter:

    1. UK winter wonderlands

The dark and gloomy winter months can leave people feeling depressed about being cooped up inside, but the beauty of having a motorhome is you have the freedom to go anywhere you want; whatever the weather!

The UK boasts some beautiful destinations that sparkle in the winter snow or sunshine. Enjoy the crisp fresh air of the Peak District, take scenic walks along sweeping mountainsides in the Scottish Highlands or deny that winter has arrived altogether and head to the Isles of Scilly, the warmest place in Britain.

    1. Chase the sun round Europe

Britain may be starting to show classic symptoms of winter syndrome, so why not treat this with a soothing dose of sunshine?

The south of France and Spain are popular winter destinations among Brits and can easily be reached by ferry. Wherever you decide to take your motorhome, remember your Shield Motorhome Insurance before you go.

    1. Prepare it for travel

Before taking your motorhome on a UK or continental adventure, there are a few things you can do to ensure you stay warm on the road. Use Propane as opposed to Butane as it freezes at much lower temperatures, put tinfoil down the back of the radiators to keep heat in and replace the rubber door seals if necessary.

    1. Redecorate

Even if you’re not planning on going away this winter, your motorhome doesn’t have to go into hibernation. Instead, give it a new lease of life by doing a spot of redecorating. Change the soft furnishings or add some new accessories – there’s plenty you can do to jazz it up before the warmer months swing around.

    1. Prepare it for storage

If you do plan to bid adieu to your motorhome for a few months, make sure you store it properly. The aim is to ensure it is safe from adverse weather conditions to reduce the risk of mildew and condensation forming.

Remove valuables if you are keeping it outside so as not to attract thieves, drain the water system and ensure battery-powered security devices such as alarms are kept charged.
