Inexpensive getaways abroad are increasingly at hand’s reach in this interconnected world. In Europe especially, individuals can get to wonderful destinations with manifold budget airlines including Easyjet and Ryanair, but also by rail or car, as pocket-friendly chains of hotels will see you spend a night for as little as 30 euros. Today I will talk about:
- Greece
- Switzerland
- New York
- Buenos Aires
Greece

In the top half of my personal list is Greece, a country rich in cookery, established history and customs. With copious dotted islands along the coast, a cycling holiday is an ultimate getaway from your busy lifestyle. Flights to Athens from most European cities are incredibly affordable, and you can elect either to bring a tent along as you cycle up the coast and hills, or simply book accommodation at along the way for a more comfortable experience. From Athens there are many directions to head in. You could head south along the coast, go up north, or head in-land (I don’t advise this option during the hot period of the year, as a dip in the Aegean would be essential!) If you choose to go south, there are ferries that take you to visit islands such as Makronisos.
A visit to Greece’s national parks is also a must due to their wonderful undulating hills that provoke nostalgia of Greek gods. Up north you can have the same sort of adventure, and perhaps this is the option for those looking for contact with the Greek and their splendid culture, as the islands here are more populated. Let me remind you, this still falls under the category of a economical holiday; despite how lucky you may feel on it!
Albeit cycling is not obligatory, it is a great way to truly become acquainted with the country, and you always have the option to catch a bus if you experience fatigue; I shouldn’t need note that you’ll end your trip with the build of Zeus after so much biking! Mountaineering is also a good option, although you will depend more on vehicles, and I should stress that this sort of daring holiday is more suitable for cooler months or autumn, as the high temperatures. Biking holidays are a great option because they mean less expenses, as you are mostly out in the country on your escapade from society and shops, and from this assumption you can also look at central Europe as a great destination.
Switzerland
Switzerland is quite pricey for eating out and shopping, but its beautiful Alpine landscape is very hard to resist, also riddled with lovely sights including peaceful crystal clear mountain water lakes. Switzerland is also a great place to find diamond wedding rings.
New York
The splendorous city of New York is unlikely to let you down, and at especially during the Christmas months, you will have a superb time. The city glows with amazing ornaments, and your children might dream of the North Pole with the snow. People often call New York City the capital of the world for its great stature, cosmopolitanism and its stock market on Wall Street. Great attractions include Grand Central Station, the Statue of Liberty and the National Library. Its splendorous skyscrapers really impose themselves on the horizon, which viewed from various places. The Empire State building is a superb place from which one can view this great scene. The style of the New York City buildings immediately attract you with their grandeur.
Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital, is a city that I have a lot of experience in. It has usually been termed the ‘Paris of South America.’ Buenos Aires has an impressive cuisine and a passionate culture. Its French architecture buildings, diminutive cafes, institutions and cosmopolitan bistros leave it with an unparalleled air that evokes desire and interest. Argentine wine and beef are extremely popular around the world, and the locals’ craving for football, as Buenos Aires City is the city with the uppermost concentration of teams in the world, is also an interesting sight. I highly recommend visiting Puerto Madero and the French embassy, a characteristic manor of the Buenos Aires aristocracy that has been maintained almost intact, with the addition of several donations of private articles that were collected by this social class for hundreds of years.
These are some excellent locations. The only one I have personally visited is New York. However, after reading your description of Greece I feel as vacation coming up soon. Thanks for sharing these excellent destination spots.
I have to agree with Buenos Aires, I went there in 2005 and it has been one of the best trips ever. I loved the city and I had lots of fun, walking and walking. People are so passionate, I will never forget the boys singing for their football teams in the side walks, not because there was a game on that moment but just because they wanted to sing and have fun, and just blocks away couples dancing tango on the streets.
