Have A Fab Summer Holiday For Less In South Africa

If you have been following stories in the news about where’s good to head for this summer in order to get the best value for money, then you’ll no doubt have spotted the fact that South Africa is usually close to the top of the list, regardless of what currency you are exchanging for South African rand. The country’s currency has weakened against the pound and the dollar recently for a range of reasons and this can only be good news for travellers heading to South Africa in the coming months. The Western Cape is one of the most popular areas with holiday makers visiting this part of the world for the first time, but what is there to do once you arrive?

    Cape Town

Cape Town is the second-most populated city in South Africa after Johannesburg. If you’re looking for fun, awe-inspiring vistas, a place of diversity, music, culture and fabulous dining options, you won’t disappointed. Businesses in the city are prospering and inner-city crime is coming under control. If you’re looking for a city that will keep you occupied and leave you breathless, Cape Town is a great choice.

    Table Mountain

Overlooking Cape Town is Table Mountain, a flat-topped giant that most people visiting the city make a beeline for straight away. You can choose to walk the 1,086 metres up to the top, or alternatively take the aerial cableway if you’re more interested in taking in the view and saving your legs. On the other hand, if you are feeling really adventurous, you could choose to abseil down a cliff face and really give yourself an experience to remember.

    Boulders Beach

Another hotspot for visitors to the Western Cape is Boulders Beach. There’s no denying that the soft white sands and huge granite boulders are impressive, but it is the beach’s residents that really bring the tourists in. Boulders is home to a colony of thousands of African penguins – one of only a few in the world. And while these creatures may appear to waddle carelessly along the sand, don’t be deceived – in the water they turn into sleek black and white torpedoes capable of impressive speed and tight manoeuvres.

    The Garden Route

When you’re ready to move further away from the city then consider a trip along the Garden Route. A must for nature lovers, the region is home to some incredible natural beauty. Expect to see stunning beaches, rivers, lakes and mountain scenery if you travel along the route. Knysna is a popular stopping point for many thanks to its great weather, restaurants, accommodation and friendly locals.

    Cape Point

Set right at the end of a narrow spit of land in the Table Mountain National Park is Cape Point. Offering dramatic sea views, an incredible array of flora and fauna and an historic lighthouse, a trip here is well worth it. Pay a visit to the Buffelsfontein Visitor Centre and you’ll be able to discover all about the plants and animals that call this incredible national park home.
