Recently, Manny Pacquaio, the most famous Filipino and greatest boxer off all time, lost to Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico via knockout with just one second left on the 6th round. This was a blow to Filipino pride and has made other countries think that it was over for the Philippines for their hero and idol has fallen at last. But little do they know that, Pacman isn’t the only reason why Filipinos are proud of their country. God has blessed this south east Asian nation a home that is truly considered a world class feat. And these are their country’s natural wonders and places.

It’s really more fun in the Philippines. I have been there so many times that I’m thinking that I should probably move there and explore it even further. Most tourists choose this once Spanish colonized country over other world class destinations because of the hospitality and beauty of their natural wonders. Below are five places that truly define Filipino pride. I was lucky enough to have visited them and experience whatever they have to offer. One of them is already in the new 7 Natural Wonders of the World list while the others will definitely be considered in the history books in the future.
Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park
This place truly gives off an astonishing and breath taking experience. Located in the city of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, the Puerto PRincesa Underground Rivaer and National Park is home to one of the world’s most beautiful underground caves. Stacked with rich biodiversity and amazing rock formations, tourists can enjoy peace and quiet inside the cave and marvel at the natural beauty it emanates.
The Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park
Considered to be one of the best diving spots in the Philippines, the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park is home to a wide variety of fish and coral life. It has a total area of 130,208 hectares and is host to pristine coral reefs. From clown fish to black tip sharks, this location definitely satisfies the hungry and adventurous diver. With its vast area, tourists will have to join a 7 day diving trip in order to explore the areas and spot colorful marine life. there is limited time for guests to visit the reef park (from late march to early June) since its stability is greatly affected by the weather.
The Banaue Rice Terraces
should be on every Filipino’s must-visit list. The Ifugaos learned how to use the contours of the mountains to cultivate rice paddies, using the force of gravity for natural water irrigation. This knowledge was passed down from generation to generation for 2,000 years. It is highly recommended to experience this great example of harmony between man and nature.
Formed and sculpted by the Ifugao people of the Mountain Province, the Banaue Rice Terraces truly is a one of a kind wonder and defines the Filipino trait of dedication. It took almost 2,000 years for the Ifugao tribesmen to sculp the mountainsn of Banue into rice patties that look like stairways to heaven and was passed on from one generation to the other. Such a great sight should not be missed when visiting the Pearl of the Orient.
Donsol, Sorsogon.
Donsol has the largest number of whale shark sightings recorded in history thus earning its nickname as the Whale Shark Capital of the World. Whale Sharks, or Butanding to the locals, are friendly, gigantic fish that feed off plankton and small shrimp. They are among the favorites of diving aficionados since they are really gentle and friendly creatures that can be interacted with. Also this is theonly place in the world that offers whale shark encounter this close, and by far, it hs pleased tourists all over the world.
El Nido Resorts in El Nido, Palawan
Armed with clear water, pristine white sand beaches and stunning lagoons and coves, The El Nido Resorts in Palawan earned various awards including the Most Green Friendly hotel in the world. Visitors can stay in wooden cottages that are posted above the crystal clear water while children can enjoy the beach and the calm waves.
