Kolkata is capital of West Bengal, it is a city situated on the bank of Hugli river and is always the center of eastern India. Kolkata is derived from the ancient name of the city “Kalikata” which means “Ground of goddess Kali” in Bengali.     1. Kalighat Kali Temple

    Kalighat is one of the four shakti peethas. The temple is dedicated to goddess Kali. It is one of the famous pilgrims of Hindus and thousands of people visit here from all over the world to worship Kali. The temple premisses is always crowded with people offering their worship and visitors.

    2. St Paul’s Church

    St Paul’s Church is known for its grecian pillars and Indo-Gothic architecture.It takes around 10 years to manufacture this marvel peace of art.Many catholic and non-catholic people visit church everyday. It is not just a place to worship but its designs also impress visitors to come here.

    3. Nakhoda Mosque
    The mosque was built by Abdur Rahim in 1926.It is the largest mosque in Kolkata that has sitting capicity of 10,000 people to offer their prayers. The mosque is copy of Akbar tob in Sikandra near Agra.

    4. Japanese Buddhist Temple

    It is a budhist temple that will make you feel like you are in Japan. The monks in temple worship in Japanese language on drum beats in morning and evening.You can visit to the temple any day of the week to listen the chants of the monks.

    5. Birla Temple

    Birla mandir is temple of Laxmi Narayan, god and goddess of Hindus. It is famous temple built by the industrialist Birla family.The architecture of the temple attracts many visitors and many locals also come here for prayers and get spiritual peace of mind.

    6. Dakshineswar Kali Temple
    Dakshineswar Kali Temple is situated on the bank of river Ganga. It is magnificent piece of construction it was constructed by the Rani Rashmoni. The main temple has statue of goddess Kali and has 12 Shiva temples in a row. Being crowded with devotees all over the year, you can still feel spiritual peace.

    7. Sri Sri Radha Govind Temple

    This is a sanctuary built by the Srila Prabhupada. This temple has statue of Lord Krishna and Radha deities of the Hindus. Many devotees come here from all over the world for prayers and to enjoy tranquillity. The architectural beauty of the temple also attracts many visitors the temple is open for all. The temple has a restaurant also where you can enjoy some purely vegetarian food sitting in peaceful atmosphere.

You can visit Kolkata throughout the year but better to avoid hassle of rainy season that is observed from June to September in Kolkata.
