Splash Out On Your Honeymoon in Antarctica

There’s no hard and fast rule that says you have to go somewhere hot and exotic on your honeymoon. Did anyone you know go anywhere other than a tropical island for their post-wedding holiday? No? Then maybe it’s time to break the mould and broaden your horizons. What better way to start your married life together than to do something packed with adventure; something you’ll only do once; somewhere that many argue is the most beautiful place on Earth?

Imagine taking a luxurious Antarctic cruise from South America – a holiday blow-out that will stay with you forever and that relatively few ever get to experience for themselves. If you’re wildlife lovers then more the better, as you’ll spot animals and birds that you would have only ever seen in zoos and in Disney cartoons.

Choose from the best tour companies and find yourself aboard the world’s premier ships that have the feel more of a large, luxury yacht than a heavy ocean liner. Relax inside your spacious en-suite cabin, stroll along the teak decking, or relax by the poolside or in the sauna during your hours at sea. The best ships have lecture series by nature and environment experts who will provide a programme of activities to keep you entertained and encourage you to learn more about the strange new world you find yourself in.

Most Antarctic cruises start from vibrant Buenos Aires in Argentina, where you’ll have a day or so to explore this buzzing city and relax in one of its most exclusive hotels. You’ll join your ship after a flight to Ushuaia – the ‘end of the world’ at the southern-most tip of the Americas. Heading down through the Beagle Channel and into the famous Drake Passage, you’ll see albatross soaring above you, following the ship for miles at a time.

Luxury ships are resilient ice-breakers but small enough to head deep into Antarctica, reaching places which larger ships can’t access. On-board guides will organise shore landings for small groups to visit penguin rookeries, dramatic ice landscapes and research stations. You’ll discover the overwhelming beauty of one of the world’s last wildernesses during your cruise.

Why not begin or round off your honeymoon with further exploration of South America? Without heading beyond Argentina, you could visit the world famous wine region of Mendoza, or take an excursion to Iguaçu Falls – one of the world’s most impressive waterfalls.

    1. This is exactly what I’ve been telling my fiance about, but she’s just so caught up in going to Thailand or Mexico. I mean why do something just because everyone else is doing? Everyone has the same generic honeymoon stories because they all do the same thing. We can do something as original as going to the Antarctica for our honeymoon and we could make such unique memories there. As a last resort I’m going to make her read this article, but it’ll backfire if she ends up reading other vacation articles here lol.
